    Recap of Inside Xbox Livestream

Microsoft has been a little open about revealing their next console as of late. They officially revealed Xbox Series X at The Game Awards (2019) event. Microsoft then revealed some tech specs of Xbox Series X. Then, out of nowhere, Microsoft dropped most, if not all tech specs for Xbox Series X. Many Xbox players were asking “What about the games? Where are the Xbox Series X games?” Well, recently, Microsoft’s Xbox division had an answer with a tweet. They said they’ll reveal Xbox Series X games on May 7, 2020. They did in fact reveal it, but it did not show much in the way of gameplay…

We’ll take a look at the 15 games revealed at the event. Microsoft said that most of the games revealed during “Xbox 20/20” are third party developers/publishers. They’ll show off more Xbox Series X games as the year goes on… In fact, expect the first party reveals to arrive in July. (That’s what Microsoft said, anyway.)

It will be an “Inside Xbox” episode. As revealed today, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is coming to Xbox Series X, and Ubisoft announced that the gameplay reveal will be during the “Inside Xbox” episode on May 7th…

An Xbox division employee further clarified that the upcoming “Inside Xbox” episode will focus on Third Party Xbox Series X games…

  • Microsoft trademarks “Series X” logo

    Microsoft trademarks “Series X” logo

When Xbox Series X was originally announced during The Game Awards (2019) event, Microsoft released marketing materials to go along with the announcement(s). The branding was generic at best. No one outside of Microsoft had any idea as to how Xbox Series X would be branded as or what the plans would be with regards to branding. Well, today, it was discovered that Microsoft filed a trademark for “Series X,” leading everyone to asking more questions: Are there going to be more devices? What is this?

Well, let’s take a look at it… (Here‘s the trademark listing, by the way.)

This looks like something you’d stamp on the box and say “Series X supported.” Though, this could also be part of the console’s box art styling, the game’s box styling, but what else? Who knows. We can speculate, though.

However, we won’t have to wait any longer, because rumor is that Microsoft is planning to reveal the “Lockheart” console, supposedly named “Xbox Series S” in May. Microsoft even discounted the Xbox One X console to $299 for stock clearance between now and the launch of Series X or while the supplies lasts.

They even dropped a series of articles like a bombshell after bombshells of attacks. At the same time, Digital Foundry released a few videos to show off the actual Xbox Series X console, and the teardown. Well, recently, Microsoft did a new “Inside Xbox” livestream to talk about upcoming games, and the new Xbox Series X. Here is the recap of the livestream…

Xbox Series X is scheduled to released Holiday 2020, with no firm release date.

Xbox Series X Revealed and Detailed

Recently, Microsoft revealed some information on Xbox Series X. Now, a month later, more information is unearthed. This morning, the team at Microsoft, and the team at Digital Foundry co-produced a series of articles, and a series of videos talking about the power of Xbox Series X. The first article was about the glossary of Xbox Series X’s various new technologies. The second article was an interview with the person who was making the Xbox Series X controllers. The third article details how the controller’s latency has changed with Xbox Series X. Finally, Microsoft posted the technical specs of the Xbox Series X.

Coinciding with the announcement, Microsoft also invited Digital Foundry to the Microsoft HQ, and they were able to get first impressions of the console. They were also able to show off how the Xbox Series X looks next to Xbox One X…

  • Some Xbox Series X specs announced

Some Xbox Series X specs announced

After the reveal of “Project Scarlett” at E3 2019, Microsoft has been hyping up the Next Generation Xbox console which was revealed at The Game Awards as Xbox Series X. Shortly thereafter, AMD unveiled that Xbox Series X will use their chips. The head of Xbox, Phil Spencer posted a blog post on Xbox Wire to talk about the new Xbox Series X. While they’ve not announced all the specs for Xbox Series X, this is better than nothing… I guess.

Some of these bullet points are buzzwords that we’ve not seen before or at least not often used. So, I’ll pull some excerpts to help you understand from their mouth what they are…

    • Next Generation Custom Processor: Xbox Series X is our most powerful console ever powered by our custom designed processor leveraging AMD’s latest Zen 2 and RDNA 2 architectures. Delivering four times the processing power of an Xbox One and enabling developers to leverage 12 TFLOPS of GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) performance – twice that of an Xbox One X and more than eight times the original Xbox One. Xbox Series X delivers a true generational leap in processing and graphics power with cutting edge techniques resulting in higher framerates, larger, more sophisticated game worlds, and an immersive experience unlike anything seen in console gaming.
    • Variable Rate Shading (VRS): Our patented form of VRS empowers developers to more efficiently utilize the full power of the Xbox Series X. Rather than spending GPU cycles uniformly to every single pixel on the screen, they can prioritize individual effects on specific game characters or important environmental objects. This technique results in more stable frame rates and higher resolution, with no impact on the final image quality.
    • Hardware-accelerated DirectX Raytracing: You can expect more dynamic and realistic environments powered by hardware-accelerated DirectX Raytracing – a first for console gaming. This means true-to-life lighting, accurate reflections and realistic acoustics in real time as you explore the game world.

They expanded on this clarifying some more…

    • SSD Storage: With our next-generation SSD, nearly every aspect of playing games is improved. Game worlds are larger, more dynamic and load in a flash and fast travel is just that – fast.
    • Quick Resume: The new Quick Resume feature lets you continue multiple games from a suspended state almost instantly, returning you to where you were and what you were doing, without waiting through long loading screens.
    • Dynamic Latency Input (DLI): We’re optimizing latency in the player-to-console pipeline starting with our Xbox Wireless Controller, which leverages our high bandwidth, proprietary wireless communication protocol when connected to the console. With Dynamic Latency Input (DLI), a new feature which synchronizes input immediately with what is displayed, controls are even more precise and responsive.
    • HDMI 2.1 Innovation: We’ve partnered with the HDMI forum and TV manufacturers to enable the best gaming experience through features such as Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR). ALLM allows Xbox One and Xbox Series X to automatically set the connected display to its lowest latency mode. VRR synchronizes the display’s refresh rate to the game’s frame rate, maintaining smooth visuals without tearing. Ensuring minimal lag and the most responsive gaming experience.
    • 120 fps Support: With support for up to 120 fps, Xbox Series X allows developers to exceed standard 60 fps output in favor of heightened realism or fast-paced action.

They’ve hyped up backward compatibility for a while now. All this is confirmed and clarified straight from Phil Spencer himself….

    • Four generations of gaming: Our commitment to compatibility means existing Xbox One games, including backward-compatible Xbox 360 and original Xbox games, look and play better than ever before. Your favorite games, including titles in Xbox Game Pass, benefit from steadier framerates, faster load times and improved resolution and visual fidelity – all with no developer work required. Your Xbox One gaming accessories also come forward with you.
    • Smart Delivery: This technology empowers you to buy a game once and know that – whether you are playing it on Xbox One or Xbox Series X – you are getting the right version of that game on whatever Xbox you’re  playing on. We’re making the commitment to use Smart Delivery on all our exclusive Xbox Game Studios titles, including Halo Infinite, ensuring you only have to purchase a title once in order to play the best available version for whichever Xbox console they choose to play on. This technology is available for all developers and publishers, and they can choose to use it for titles that will be release on Xbox One first and come to the Xbox Series X later.
    • Xbox Game Pass: In addition to games from across four generations of consoles, our leading game subscription service, Xbox Game Pass, will continue to have our first party games, like Halo Infinite, included at their launch.  We look forward to millions of you experiencing the Xbox Game Pass portfolio and immersing yourselves in a deep library of high-quality games, playing those you love now and also discovering your next great adventure.

Phil Spencer said that we’ll know more about Xbox Series X in the months to come. Xbox Series X is slated to be released Holiday 2020.

  • Outriders is now a Next Gen title

Outriders is now a Next Gen title

Outriders was originally announced during E32019 with some vague information about the game. It was originally slated to be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in Summer 2020. People Can Fly and Square Enix released a new trailer, with more information about the game: It’s now slated to be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC with no firm release date, but a release window, instead – Holiday 2020.

Outriders is a co-op shooter, and I’m not sure what kind of shooter it’s going to be… That’s why I am sticking with the fact that the game is vague at best. I think it’s best for me to pull the description from the official YouTube channel for Outriders:

Outriders is a 1-3 player co-op RPG shooter set in an original, dark and desperate sci-fi universe. As mankind bleeds out in the trenches of Enoch, you’ll create your own Outrider and embark on a journey across the hostile planet. With rich storytelling spanning a diverse world, you’ll leave behind the slums and shanty towns of the First City and traverse forests, mountains and desert in the pursuit of a mysterious signal. Combining intense gunplay with violent powers and an arsenal of increasingly twisted weaponry and gear-sets, Outriders offers countless hours of gameplay from one of the finest shooter developers in the industry – People Can Fly.

More Xbox Series X info revealed

I don’t know how, but I missed this piece of news today. Apparently, AMD hosted their own event before CES even started, too. AMD is not just a chips manufacturer for computers, they acquired ATI in 2006 to design graphics chips alongside their existing CPU’s, and other miscellaneous technology chips. They primarily target not just computers, they also target mobile phones, laptops, tablets, server racks, and video game consoles. Between IBM, and AMD, you will see at least one chip by AMD in your computer or mobile device today.

Well, AMD just wrapped up their livestream about 2 hours ago…. Seen below…

At the 10:07 mark, you will see a sizzle reel that includes first looks at Xbox Series X’s backend…

Looks nothing out of the ordinary, right? Except if you paid attention. Obviously, the bottom is the I/O power switch, followed by 2 USB ports, I’m not sure which type of USB, but if you look higher, you’ll notice two USB-C ports, S/PDIF, and an Ethernet port. Nothing more has been revealed, other than that this chip you see below, was a subject of discussion on Twitter, because Phil Spencer was using it as his profile picture…

During the livestream, AMD called the chip “The World’s First 7NM GPU architecture.” You can also notice on the chip, there’s “Project Scarlett” on it. It also says that PlayStation 5 will be powered by AMD’s CPU, and GPU. We’ll possibly know more at Sony’s livestream. Some folks have been hyping it up as the reveal of PlayStation 5, but I doubt it. They usually hold a PlayStation Meeting in February.

EDIT: So, apparently, the sizzle reel above that showed the Xbox Series X’s back for the first time… is fake. Like, they took a render from TurboSquid who provides 3D models, it seems someone at AMD used one of the many renders available of the Xbox Series X on the site. In a response to The Verge, AMD admits “The Xbox Series X imagery used during the AMD CES press conference was not sourced from Microsoft and does not accurately represent the design or features of the upcoming console.”

The Game Awards 2019 brings a shock announcement

Every year, Geoff Keighley hosts a yearly awards show. Geoff founded The Game Awards in 2014, and has been a yearly celebration where gamers, game companies, and the media meet. The community votes for each category is their favorite for the year, and the judges tallies the votes, then finalizes the winners on-stage at the awards ceremony.

Previously codenamed “Project Scarlett.” Microsoft kicked off The Game Awards with the reveal of their next console – Xbox Series X.
