What if CODGhosts featured Ghost’s Son?

Call of Duty: Ghosts’ Single Player campaign was a major focus in a trailer released recently. I was thinking long and hard about what’s new in the trailer. Then it hit me: Look back at last year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops II’s narrative. In Black Ops 2, the story put a major focus on a narrative. It wasn’t [Alex] Mason that it was a focus of the story, contrary to popular speculation – rather, it put focus on Mason’s son. You take control as David Mason the whole way through, while at the same time – Frank Woods tells you the story of what happened from his perspective – and you play as Alex Mason as a narrative, your job was to stop Raul Menendez, and eventually you do.

Ghost is famous known for his role in Modern Warfare 2 and went on to become a cult icon to the point of getting fan petitions, fans’ desire to have him included in a Call of Duty title since MW2. Infinity Ward has not heeded this fan feedback to play as Ghost, desire to at least see him in a cameo appearance, or see his story. Ever since late last year, and into early this year, people have been asking if Ghost would make a return in some shape or form.

Around April or May, there has been a lot of speculation and talk about the next Call of Duty title. In the midst of all of this speculation – Call of Duty Ghosts was revealed. Shortly thereafter, it re-ignited talk and speculation as to the possibility of Ghost making a return. The story was not clear enough, and there wasn’t one major “hint” with regards to the direction of CODGhosts. Until now…

It did not hit me until 1:51 when two folks were talking supposedly finished talking to each other…

Does the atmosphere, the backdrop, and mood remind you of anything? It did, for me, because it looks eerily similar.. really familiar to me. I recall that one scene when Frank Wood and David Mason was outside at Alex Mason’s grave, talking about the story. If you don’t believe me, go back and finish Black Ops 2.

Here, this is from the Wii U version of the game, skip to 2:11 and you’ll see what I mean…

Click at your own risk. The video contains spoilers.

So, back to the question: What if Call of Duty: Ghosts featured Ghost’ son? I mean, it’s not that far fetched, either. The Call of Duty Dog is named “Riley” and has been billed strictly as a “fan service.” And even if I am wrong, the narrative is so similar it’s ridiculous.

If I am wrong, then it would be someone else’s son. I can’t point my finger at it, but something tells me this story is an extension of the Modern Warfare arc. In other words, while the game bears a new name as “Ghosts.” The game is possibly in the same universe. It is, after all, Infinity Ward.

Fact check between Black Ops 2 and CODGhosts:

    – Both seemed to have this post-apocalyptic feel.
    – Both takes place in the future. Although one has future weapons, the other does not.
    – The enemy has long been secret from the public until months leading up to launch. Even more so with Ghosts.

We don’t even know who we are up against this time around. All we know is that we’re converging a building on Venezuela soil.

    – Both has a narrative that focuses on at least one person – and/or heir(s) in the family.
    – Both has a strong theme – Black Ops 2 was all about future weapons, Ghosts is all about stealth.

    What do you think?

  • Call of Duty: Ghosts Multiplayer Revealed

Call of Duty: Ghosts Multiplayer Revealed

Call of Duty Ghosts has been revealed. Activision let the floodgates of first footage and info on CODGhosts Multiplayer for the world to see. With 100+ Million Call of Duty players watching the Live Stream, the first thing we see at the Global Multiplayer Reveal event is a trailer of Call of Duty: Ghosts…

As you can see, the first thing we know is that the Call of Duty Dog, Riley is part of the Multiplayer mode. With Infinity Ward’s emphasis on “Squads” this shouldn’t come as a surprise. But it is! There seems to be a new HUD interface going on here. You’ve got an interactive Radar on the upper left corner. Very transparent. Even though transparent, your player and the enemy looks like they’re highly noticeable. The killfeed has moved from the lower left, to the upper right corner. Seems to be a design decision on Infinity Ward’s part to bring focus into the upper right corner with that new scoring system going on there.

There are a lot of elements going on in the reveal trailer, too. The equipment you have now are easier to stick to walls and are dynamic to the point of being able to explode a player from the top. Environments seem to be more interactive, there’s this moving mechanism in the middle of the battlefield. You can mantle over objects to advance to the other side of the map. Environmental objects fall onto each other as if the maps are live – Real, breathing world. Environments are also destructible. Your weapons, your killstreaks (or pointstreaks), and dynamic effects such as earthquakes can change the strategies of your own, or your enemies.

What we know so far about Call of Duty Ghosts are…

Marshall Mathers’ (a.k.a. Eminem) new song, called “Survival” is featured in Call of Duty Ghosts.

    Dynamic Maps:
    – Your Weapons, your player-controlled demolition, your killstreaks can impact, change, or alter the maps via destructible environments.
    – Natural dynamic events such as an electric pole can alter your strategy going forward. These natural events can also alter your enemies’ strategies, too.

    Create-A-Soldier:
    – Your appearance can be edited, altered, and customized with 20,000 different customizations to choose from.
    – You can choose to be a man, or a woman.
    – If you join a clan and play with a clan, you can unlock new camos, and customizable elements.

    Create-A-Class:
    – You can unlock equipment, regardless of rank. As long as you can afford it (via points in the game, or clan points.)
    – You have a budget of X amount of slots, similar to Black Ops 2’s Pick 10 system.
    – You can take away slots in order to gain more points for use towards other slots.

    Perks:
    – You now have 9 perk slots.
    – Points are weighted between 1 to 3. So, you can have 8 perks worth 1pts each, or 4 perks worth 2 points each, or a combination of the two.
    – Perks are grouped this time around, rather than tiered, like previous entries in the Call of Duty series.

Call of Duty Ghosts will arrive to PlayStation 3, Wii U, and Xbox 360 on November 5th, 2013. CODGhosts for PlayStation 4, and Xbox One will be released alongside those Next Generation consoles.

Infinity Ward teases ‘Squads’ menu for Call of Duty Ghosts

    CODGhosts MP Reveal
Call of Duty Ghosts Multiplayer Reveal begins August 14th.

It hasn’t even been a week. It has been 5 days since Activision dropped the invitation to the gaming press – that a Global Multiplayer Reveal would take place. But Mark Rubin, the Excutive Producer at Infinity Ward uploaded a few seconds of CODGhosts’ menu, then it shows.. Squads.

It’s worth noting that Infinity Ward has been experimenting with the clan system since Modern Warfare 3, but wasn’t well executed. Treyarch’s Black Ops 2 was a little better, but still isn’t well executed, so hopefully, this “Squads” system takes the clan system and expands it.

  • Call of Duty Ghosts Single Player revealed

Call of Duty Ghosts Single Player revealed

After much anticipation for more Call of Duty Ghosts information. Activision held their own pre-E32013 Press Conference called Call of Duty Ghosts All Access. At the All Access event held just moments ago, Activision and Infinity Ward unveiled a short portion of Call of Duty Ghosts single player gameplay…

In the first part of the All Access presentatkon, you start out underwater. In the “Into the Deep” mission the game takes you down under the Caribbean Seas. You will follow an enemy as they prepare for an underwater sneaking mission of sorts. Along the way, you’ll notice small details such as fish moving in real time, and they will move away when you’re close to them. Once you get to a climax point of the underwater campaign, you’ll control some kind of futuristic, portable, remote-controlled torpedo. Activision says the mission is an entire level that you will be playing a lot in. Meaning, it’s not as short as it was in Modern Warfare 3, where you only had to destroy a submarine and get out of the water and into the New York boat chase. In Call of Duty Ghosts, it’s more than that. In fact, you will be escaping from an “accident” that you’ve created earlier with the remote controlled torpedo. The enemy base comes crashing down and you’ve got to move fast!

Ever since Call of Duty Ghosts was revealed, the Call of Duty Dog has been the most talked-about squad member of Call of Duty Ghosts. Today, not only did we learn that Call of Duty Dog is playable, Activision and Infinity Ward unveiled the name of the dog: Riley! We have no idea if this is a killstreak in CODGhosts, but we do know that the dog’s in Single Player. In the “No Man’s Land” demo, which takes place 10 miles north of San Diego, it shows a camera, over Riley’s head. You are sneaking past the enemies and the dog will be helping you eliminate enemies without being noticed. You will walk through an abandoned house that’s destroyed, and is about to become a shaky situation moments later. As you head out, you’re treated to a nice shaky animation, where a abandoned house is being torn down by falling. Once you get to the same house, you will regain control of Riley once again. Riley sneaks, then runs at enemy, and you’re able to move. From here, Riley helps you scout enemies and your squad takes them out. You come to a new door, and your team mate breaks the door for Riley to jump in and bite enemies, they come out, and you’re able to shoot ’em all. Demo ends here.

There’s another footage shown, but they’re extended videos of footage of what we’ve seen thus far. Its possible these footages will be shown during E32013. It shows some of the locations that we’re going to mission in.

If you’d like to know a little bit about Call of Duty’s story, IGN did a sneak-peak preview of Call of Duty Ghosts last night.

Call of Duty Ghosts will arrive to all current, and next generation consoles: Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PC, and Wii U. It will arrive worldwide on November 5th 2013. We’ll have more information about Call of Duty Ghosts as we get them.

  • Call of Duty: Ghosts revealed

    Call of Duty: Ghosts revealed

For the last 6 months, Activision has been teasing small little tidbits about the next Call of Duty title, we were all expecting it to be MW4. Activision peeled off the curtains to reveal that Call of Duty Ghosts is the final name of the next Call of Duty title. [CODNet article] They said the game will be revealed at Microsoft’s headquarters, during their Xbox Reveal. Well, it did actually happen just a few minutes ago. Enjoy behind the scenes with Infinity Ward…

Stephen Gaghan, the award winning writer of films such as “Traffic,” and “Syriana” will be writing the story. Stephen also directed “Syriana.” Call of Duty Ghosts will be a completely new story. Infinity Ward was quick to reiterate that Call of Duty: Ghosts is not a reboot. It won’t be a big spectacle, or large scale like Modern Warfare 3.

    Info we know so far:

    – It’s been 10 years. They don’t remember anything, they are pondering about memories.
    – Ghosts is a faction (as you can see from the patches on their arms), but according to many news sources such as this one, the game is about two brothers who wants to join this “Ghosts” group.
    – Call of Duty: Ghosts is not connected to Modern Warfare 3.
    – The game seems to take place in present day scenario.
    – Ghosts will run on a new engine.
    – There will be new animations in Call of Duty Ghosts.
    – CODGhosts will be locked at 60 frames per second, meaning ultra-silk movements. The trailer above does NOT do the game justice.
    – You’ll be underwater in some missions – and boy it looks beautiful.
    – Dogs will be a major part of Call of Duty Ghosts, if comments by IW employees is anything to go by. They’ll sniff out explosives, be your guide through unforeseen circumstances, basically acting as your AI buddy. It’ll attack enemies for you, too.
    – DLC will be timed exclusive to Xbox platform(s) once again.
    – It’ll be on PC, Wii U, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

Call of Duty Multiplayer will be reinvented.
    – Major new innovation: Dynamic Maps. Ghosts’ maps will be interactive; they’ll have earthquakes, floods (like Black Ops 2’s Uprising pack), logs & objects falling off and crushing players.
    – IW has not revealed whether it’s triggered by players, or they go off on it’s own.

“Looking at the interactivity of environmental maps, you start to think ‘what if we could do something different here in this level, that’s appropriate for this level but not for maybe any over MP map? This map is very different. This is something we can do here that isn’t appropriate for any other MP map.’ It spitballed the idea of coming up with some very specific scenes,” says Volker.

“One of the levels has an earthquake that’s constantly going on and off through the level that starts to effect things in different ways. But that’s only that one MP map. So it was really an idea of how can we push things further and this was a really creative way of exploring that.”

    – Character customization will be further expanded. It was in Black Ops, but IW is not restricting you to loadout selection. Full-on control.
    – Heads, face paint, uniforms, scuba gear are few customizations that you’ll be able to make in Call of Duty Ghosts. It makes sense that their teaser video showed the varying types of masks. [CODNet article] They’re playing on the whole customization of CODGhosts.
