    Nintendo surprises with a Nintendo Direct focused on Mario

    Nintendo has been very, very quiet since the last Nintendo Direct. They hosted a few Nintendo Directs here and there, but nothing to write home about. Most of the Directs during Summer were partner showcases, with one or two announcements each. On the morning of September 3rd, Nintendo hosted a livestream to announce Super Mario Bros.’s 35th Anniversary celebration. In the livestream, there was announcements for games, licensed products, partners’ products, and other products to be sold during the Mario’s 35th Anniversary…

    To recap, these are the announcements from the Nintendo Direct aptly titled “Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Direct.”

    • Nintendo is releasing a limited production of Game & Watch Super Mario Bros. handheld to be released November 13, 2020.
    • Super Mario 3D World + is coming to Nintendo Switch on February 12, 2020.
    • Super Mario Bros. 35 is coming to Nintendo Switch Online on October 1, 2020.
    • Mario Kart Live Home Circuit is coming to Nintendo Switch on October 16, 2020.
    • Super Mario All Stars is on Nintendo Switch via Super NES Nintendo Switch Online now.
    • Nintendo is releasing a limited production physical (and digital) run of Super Mario 3D All Stars for Nintendo Switch, and will be available on September 18, 2020 through the end of March 2021.

    Note: Super Mario 3D All Stars is a collection of games, it will feature Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy.

    New Nintendo Direct slated for September 4th

    This morning, at exactly 7am Seattle time, on September 3rd, Nintendo announced that they are doing a new Nintendo Direct. The livestream begins at 3pm Pacific Time on September 4th. Nintendo says that the livestream will be 40 minutes long, and will be focused on the 2019 roadmap. It will also feature Pokemon Sword and Shield gameplay, and Luigi’s Mansion 3 gameplay.

    Nintendo setup a livestream with a reminder that it will start Tomorrow at 3pm PST. If you want a reminder for this Nintendo Direct, or a future Nintendo Direct, Nintendo has the website up.

    Nintendo Details Another Huge List of Upcoming Games for Nintendo 3DS, Wii U

    REDMOND, Wash.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– After decades of playing second fiddle to the No. 1 video game hero, Luigi is getting some love from Nintendo. Nintendo has named 2013 the “Year of Luigi,” thanks to the numerous appearances that Mario’s timid, green-clad twin brother will be making in games this year. In a Nintendo Direct video, Nintendo provided details about games on the way that feature Luigi, as well as information about more than two dozen upcoming games, including content for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS across packaged and digital formats.     Atlus And Nintendo Team Up To Bring A Shin Megami Tensei And Fire Emblem Crossover To Wii U

    One of the more surprising announcements from the Nintendo Direct broadcast from earlier today revealed that Nintendo and Atlus are collaborating on a new game for Wii U. That game is currently titled Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem. The game will be featuring characters from the SMT universe alongside characters from the Fire Emblem franchise. A brief trailer of the game was shown, but not much details were given. So no real confirmation on just what kind of game this will become.

    The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker Gets An HD Upgrade For Wii U

    One of the big reveals at the Nintendo Direct broadcast this morning, was the announcement of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker getting an HD makeover for the Wii U. While Nintendo was unable to show anything new for the next installment in the Zelda franchise, the producer of Legend of Zelda, Eiji Aonuma, made an appearance to share some themes that they will be focusing on. A couple of those concepts were to remove the linear mechanics of Zelda, like when players were only able to tackle dungeons in a certain order. There was also hints of multiplayer possibly returning to Zelda, as playing by yourself might not be a central focus.

    Aonuma went on to further explain that after the team worked on the breif Zelda E3 demo for Wii U, they were curious to see how past Zelda titles will look with an HD makeover, in order to gain some ideas on what the graphical style for the next Zelda title could be. This lead to them creating The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker into HD. (more…)
