  • The Mother of ALL Bombs

    The Mother of ALL Bombs

Modern Warfare 3 has been released to retailers worldwide yesterday. People have lined up for a copy of the game, and then played the game non-stop. One player was playing in Team Deathmatch and found a long kept secret. And that’s a bit surprising since Call of Duty games has been notoriously known for leaks right before the game is out. Even few days ago, there has been a lot of leaks on the internet, but not this one.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare had killstreaks up to only 7 kills. It has been the staple of the series to have a 25 killstreak, it continues now. With Modern Warfare 3, the maximum number of killstreaks is 25. Yeap. You have to rack up 25 kills to get the “Mother of all bombs” or M.O.A.B for short.

What the killstreak does is take out every member of the opposing team via some kind of gas – as you can see from the video it looks like nuke, but unlike the nuke in MW2, you and your team are alive and able to score more points thanks to a pro player.

Just to clarify a few things: M.O.A.B does not, I repeat, does NOT end the game. You can still continue to play. M.O.A.B isn’t just for a particular strike package; it is available on all strike packages. Get 25 kills, you get killstreak – simple as that.

  • Behind the Scenes with MW3 Game Modes

Behind the Scenes with MW3 Game Modes

A lot of First Person Shooters have had many game modes to choose from, and most of them sacrifice a lot of the modes for space limitations in discs. Some companies even sacrifice variety in game modes for innovative game modes. Modern Warfare 3 seems to take the best of two worlds and created a game that benefits everyone.

Kill Confirmed was a mode revealed and highlighted at CODXP 2011. With the Kill Confirmed mode, your objective is to collect the dog tag from enemies you kill, or your allies’ dog tag. The game ends when the maximum number of dogtags have been collected – either collectively as a team, or via a single player.

Team Defender is a brand-new take on Capture the Flag mode. In Team Defender, the objective is to “dominate” that flag for as long as you can for the duration of the game. The longer that you hold the flag, the more points you and your team earn. But if you or that person dies, the flag is dropped. The team that reaches the set amount of points wins.

The Vault is a feature in Call of Duty Elite, not a mode in MW3. It is a place where you can upload your content for others to download. In the vault, you can upload your custom game modes. Yup, you can upload and download game modes now!

Other game modes include Black Ops’ Gun Game, and One in the Chamber have been added to Modern Warfare 3.

And as you can see in the video, there are some new camouflages for you to unlock in the game. So far, these are the confirmed camos that you can unlock in MW3:

    Classic
    Snow
    Multicam
    Digital Urban
    Hex
    Choco
    Snake
    Blue
    Red
    Autumn
    And of course: Gold

They can be unlocked via either weapons leveling, or via weapon proficiencies.

We have come a long way since Call of Duty Elite was revealed to the public. CODElite started in beta phase with Black Ops, so when the platform goes live in 4 days, the service will support Black Ops, and MW3. That’s over 20 million gamers combined. CODElite’s integration with facebook will open the market to 800 million users worldwide.

Call of Duty Elite in a nutshell is a social network for gamers. Allowing you, the player to connect with other like-minded players. You can also create, and find like-minded clans.

Call of Duty Elite – Compete: You can compete with your friends, your clan members, like-minded clans, and rival clans. You can compare your stats with your friends, and compete for fun. Get better with each day you play COD games.

  • Behind the Scenes with Weapon Progression

Behind the Scenes with Weapon Progression

One of the things that has been the stable of the Call of Duty series is on-the-fly weapon customization. You could put a Red Dot Sight on a MP5 in COD4, you can put a camo on that MP5. In Modern Warfare 2, you can put a silencer on an intervention even though that you already put a special scope in already. But what about weapon upgrades? In real life, it’s possible to adjust your sniper rifle to be able to see 50 feet from your position. Modern Warfare 3 addresses this directly by not only allowing you to upgrade your weapon through stats upgrades, but also through proficiency classes. These classes help the type of proficiency you’ve selected become more …mature. We all know that “practice makes perfect.” This was true in COD4, it wasn’t in MW2, the developers of MW3 want you to be a better player by helping along your proficiency.

Without further ado, the behind the scenes video of Weapon Progression. Enjoy!

We are days away from Modern Warfare 3 worldwide launch! It’s getting closer, and closer, ladies and gentlemen!

P.S. Notice, that in the video, you’ll see new maps…

Behind the Scenes with Strike Packages

Ever since COD4: Modern Warfare, KillStreaks has been the stable of the Call of Duty series. Killstreaks has revolutionized first person shooters in ways that we never thought possible, it’s impact has far reached beyond Unreal Tournament’s Rampages.

In Modern Warfare 2 the Killstreaks were expanded to be customized through only one custom killstreak reward setup. With MW3, this whole customization has been taken to a whole new level – allowing you, the player to customize three – that’s right 3 killstreak packages. They’re called Strike Packages.

The men behind Modern Warfare 3 have made a video explaining details about the Strike Packages. See for yourself…

  • 128 Players = Not overkill

    128 Players = Not overkill

Electronic Arts is one of the world’s largest video game publishers next to Activision. Right now, EA is taking aim at Activision’s Call of Duty with Battlefield 3. [Read all about it here] EA has been home to some high quality games. From Road Rash, to Medal of Honor, to Mirror’s Edge, Electronic Arts has been around the block for some time.

I had some hands-on time with the Battlefield 3 Open Beta for PS3, so when I saw this article, the first thing that came out of my mouth is “That looks a lot more fun than having 32 players capped.” I am used to Call of Duty’s “find enemy x and kill” so this video here:

Makes the console versions pale in comparison to the PC version since 32 players is the maximum they’re willing to go with PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of BF3. Playing on Operation Metro with 24 other players in the beta was in a word: Boring. Like I said in the hands-on article, you spend more time walking or running from A to B.

On youtube, everyone’s complaining about the maximum number of players in BF3. One would argue that they can’t fit 128 players in a map like Operation Metro. Others argue that the maps would have to be smaller in order to fill the 32/64 player lobby. Others brought up MAG, an FPS title that can hold 256 players in a lobby, the maps were large, but it was hectic. The problem with MAG, for me was the controls, it’s not exactly… responsive as Call of Duty. In order to deal with a hectic gameplay such as MAG, you need to be able to move fast, and think on your feet. MAG’s controls did not allow for such gameplay.

BF3 doesn’t either, but it wasn’t designed to be a copycat of Call of Duty. It was designed to take aim at Call of Duty in the marketing sense of the word, but not much else. Multiplayer is vastly different, but it also is realistic enough to please military personnel.

So, back to my original point of this article: 128 players isn’t overkill. Actually, it’s the perfect number of players for Battlefield 3, since after all, Operation Metro feels like 2 large maps in a single multiplayer map. I feel bored by BF3’s 24 players in the beta. Yawn. Maybe I should go pretend I am flying:

Excuse me, while I tuck into my bed today… I’m sleepy.

  • SF x Tekken gets some tease videos

Street Fighter x Tekken is longs way off from being released. Capcom was at a brazil event recently, and they teased 3 different trailers

The first video shows a foot in some kind of saddle, a person’s red clothing, possibly crossing arms, and a person’s arm in bare. Then the trailer switches to shards of pieces: A person’s ninja hand, possibly a woman, next up is a person’s back with his/her hair flapping, and last, not the least is a person’s chest, possibly a woman. Then the trailer gathers the shards into a single image.

In the next trailer, a trend continues. This time, it starts out with a fighter’s fist, then we have what looks like a background in a japanese location, with a black arm being swung, and lastly, a person’s bare arm, with a scar. Once again, trailer switches to a bunch of shards: First is what looks like someone’s laying their legs on grass, now we have a person’s bare back with long hair being flapped, and then the last one shows some kind of wrestling suit on a muscular bionic leg. I have no idea what it is. But I know it’s a wrestling attire.

The last video is a little harder. As usual, the trailer starts out in a disappearing craft: First one shows a person’s arm, but with some kind of cloth, next up is a character’s stomach with ropes wrapped around his waist, and then a portrait of a person’s lips. A little too much, Capcom!

Anyhow, these shards show up again: A wrestling boot, next up is a rolled up sleeve of a fighter, and then the last one is showing what looks like a monk’s hood, with an old looking beard.

What could they be? Who could they be? We’ll know soon enough!

Well, today, they did, in fact release it; The trailer is called “Redemption.” The trailer shows a lot of action-packed madness and gives a glimpse of sniping Makarov!
