  • GTA3, San Andreas, and Vice City coming to Consoles and PC in November

GTA3, San Andreas, and Vice City coming to Consoles and PC in November

For those of you who don’t know what “Grand Theft Auto” is, you should really catch up, because GTA is huge. Grand Theft Auto 5 is the latest release, and has gone on to selling over 150 Million copies worldwide as of August 2021. GTA5 was originally released in 2013 for multiple consoles. However, Rockstar Games is celebrating 20 years of GTA with the original trilogy that kickstarted the franchise into overdrive. The first Grand Theft Auto games were top-down, open world cops and robbers game. It was a glitch that inspired the Grand Theft Auto that exists today. It only sold a few million copies at first, until Grand Theft Auto 3 was released for PlayStation 2 at the the height, the fever pitch of PS2. You thought it was crazy when PlayStation 5 is selling out every single restock? Try PlayStation 2, while GTA3 was released. It was a console that sold out on every restock, with lines of people at retailers. Grand Theft Auto 3 revolutionized multiple things, not just open world, but put gaming into the mainstream.

The trilogy was rumored for a while now. It was sort-of confirmed when listings of the trilogy was revealed. Now it’s official: Rockstar Games released a teaser trailer alongside the tease blog post on October 8, 2021…

Later this month marks a very special anniversary for Rockstar Games: 20 years since the original release of Grand Theft Auto III — the game that set players loose in the sprawling, three-dimensional metropolis of Liberty City with a new and unprecedented sense of freedom and immersion. In addition to carving a new path for the open world genre, Grand Theft Auto III established Grand Theft Auto as a cultural phenomenon, alongside its two subsequent — and equally legendary — entries in the series, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

We’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the Grand Theft Auto fans who have supported the games over the past two decades. Your love and appreciation for these games has helped push the Grand Theft Auto series forward with every iteration.

In honor of the upcoming anniversary, today we are excited to announce that all three games will be coming to current generation platforms later this year in Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and the Rockstar Games Launcher on PC. Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition will feature across-the-board upgrades including graphical improvements and modern gameplay enhancements for all three titles, while still maintaining the classic look and feel of the originals. We’re extremely excited to share more about these groundbreaking titles in the coming weeks — stay tuned!

To prepare for launch, we will begin removing existing versions of the classic titles from digital retailers next week. For more information, please visit Rockstar Games Support. In addition, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition will be coming to iOS and Android in the first half of 2022.

Plus, as part of the 20th anniversary celebration for GTAIII, look for a cavalcade of special gear to collect in Grand Theft Auto Online throughout upcoming events this Fall, including commemorative clothing and liveries.

We’ll have more details on how to acquire these in the weeks ahead as part of our ongoing events in GTA Online. This month’s GTA Online events will also have some special surprises — including the upcoming possibility of some unusual activity occurring in and around Southern San Andreas…

We are also continuing to improve and evolve GTA Online. As you may have noticed, we recently began cycling select Adversary Modes and Player Jobs in and out of the game. GTA Online offers a hugely diverse array of gameplay, hosting over 1,000 Rockstar-created Jobs and tens of millions more player-created Jobs since launch. By beginning to cycle the Rockstar-created Jobs in and out of the game over time, not only will we be freeing up space for new missions and modes in the future, but we are also improving the game’s matchmaking by focusing the community on a more streamlined list of Jobs from week-to-week.

This will also allow us to bring back Jobs at various times for special or seasonal events and help reduce some of the lesser-liked Jobs, as well as helping surface some of our slept-on classics or the community’s quirkier favorites alongside special bonuses, like this past week’s return of Offense DefenseSumo, and more.

We are also looking at ways to improve the GTA Online experience for new and returning players in the upcoming release of GTA Online for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S next March – stay tuned to the Rockstar Newswire for details on this and more information about the expanded and enhanced releases of GTAV and GTA Online in the months to come.

And later this year, get ready to go on an exciting new adventure in GTA Online as some well-known contacts and familiar friends need your help in expanding their “legit business” — with many more surprises soon to be revealed!

Here is the accompanying teaser trailer for GTA Trilogy – The Definitive Edition…

Then, shortly thereafter on October 22nd, Rockstar Games took to their Newswire Blog to announce the new trilogy…

Three iconic cities, three epic stories, one definitive collection. Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition includes the genre-defining Grand Theft Auto IIIGrand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas together — each one enhanced for a new generation and available together for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via the Rockstar Games Launcher.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition will be available digitally on November 11 through the PlayStation Store, the Microsoft Store on Xbox, Nintendo eShop, and the Rockstar Games Launcher, with a physical release for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4 on December 7.

Bringing the classic worlds of Liberty City, Vice City, and San Andreas to modern platforms, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition debuts new GTAV-inspired modern controls, plus across-the-board visual enhancements such as resolution upgrades and improved visual fidelity across the world, and much more to faithfully tune and improve upon all three games, while also maintaining their distinct original aesthetic.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition introduces wide-ranging modern control upgrades, including improvements to targeting and lock-on aiming, updated Weapon and Radio Station Wheels, updated Mini-Maps with enhanced navigation allowing players to set waypoints to destinations, updated Achievements, Trophies, and more. The Nintendo Switch version also features Switch-specific controls including Gyro aiming, as well as touch screen camera zooming, pans, and menu selections, while the PC version includes support for NVIDIA DLSS and additional new Accomplishments via the Rockstar Games Social Club.

Additional enhancements across all three titles include a completely rebuilt lighting system; improved shadows, weather, and reflections; upgraded character and vehicle models; along with new higher resolution textures across buildings, weapons, roads, interiors, and more. Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition also features a range of environmental upgrades including all new foliage, smoother surfaces, and increased draw distances to provide a new level of depth and clarity throughout the world.

Originally developed by Rockstar Games, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition has been adapted to modern platforms by Grove Street Games using Unreal Engine to make these classics more vibrant and more immersive than ever, celebrating the legacy of the series that redefined interactive entertainment and helped propel video games to the center of culture. • Call of Duty: Vanguard releases on November 5, 2021

Call of Duty: Vanguard releases on November 5, 2021

This year’s Call of Duty reveal was a break from the usual reveal pattern by Activision. Usually, the reveal takes place in the spring, most notably March, April, or May. This time, the reveal took place in the days before August 16, 2021 via Social Media. It was followed up with a reveal inside the Warzone timed event. There was an alpha for Call of Duty: Vanguard. Campaign was revealed during Gamescom’s annual Opening Night Live ceremony. Shortly afterwards, Call of Duty: Vanguard’s Multiplayer was revealed. Activision and Sledgehammer Games then revealed Call of Duty: Vanguard’s main campaign…

With the impending release of Call of Duty: Vanguard in November, Activision’s Call of Duty YouTube account uploaded a new video as they reveal the story…

Activision took to their blog to talk about the campaign of Call of Duty: Vanguard…

Call of DutyVanguard is not just about World War II — it is how the world as we knew it could have been destroyed after it.

Call of Duty’s legacy, through several of its games, is entrenched in World War II. Sledgehammer Games, the lead studio for Vanguard, had its own perspective of the war through Call of Duty: WWII in 2017.

In Vanguard, although most of the missions take place in a conflict whose story is told on multiple fronts, they reflect how five ordinary soldiers became heroes, ultimately resulting in what the game’s Campaign is all about — The origins of the original Special Forces — Task Force One — stopping what could have destroyed the world long after the war was over.

The Rise of Special Forces from Every Front

The game begins at its climax: as a newly recruited Operator within the budding Task Force One, you are en route to a heavily fortified U-boat facility. There, you must infiltrate the complex and obtain vital Axis military intelligence — stemming from something code-named Project Phoenix — before it is smuggled out of Germany.

Your squadmates are five soldiers whose individual actions helped turn the tide of World War II across four major fronts: Private Lucas Riggs in the North Africa Campaign, Lieutenant Wade Jackson from the Pacific, Lieutenant Polina Petrova who defended her home country on the Eastern Front, and your leader: Sergeant Arthur Kingsley of the British Army’s 9th Parachute Battalion.

Through Vanguard’s Campaign, you will live out the moments that made them heroes and learn how they came together to spearhead Task Force One. You will also get to know the concept of international “Special Forces,” and ultimately, what brings them face-to-face with the man who is spearheading Project Phoenix: the ruthless Nazi Officer Hermann Wenzel Freisinger.

Behind the Scenes of Vanguard’s Campaign

In addition to Vanguard’s Campaign reveal today, Sledgehammer Games gave a glimpse into their studio — also on multiple fronts, with locations across the United States, Canada, and Australia — and what they are doing to tell this original story based in World War II.

After retelling some of the familiar moments of World War II — Normandy and the actions of the United States’ “fighting” 1st Infantry Division — in 2017, Sledgehammer was ready to return to this pivotal global conflict with a broader perspective. When speaking to their historical advisor about the Vanguard storyline, the concept of massive tide-turning battles took hold, battles that shifted the direction of the war and that took place around the globe.

“You had battles happening on the snowy landscapes of Stalingrad, over the Solomon Islands in the Pacific, and in North Africa,” said David Swenson, Vanguard’s Campaign Creative Director.

And though tens of millions were involved in the war effort, individual actions still accounted for major contributions. “We’ve got the backdrop of these epic battles in diverse locations,” Swenson said, “but we’re also focusing on the personal stories of those who fought in World War II. These are the stories we want to tell.”

Those individual stories are the Operators who ultimately make up Task Force One — and for one of them, Polina Petrova, we got a glimpse of it earlier in September at Gamescom.

She, like other characters in the game’s Campaign, drew inspiration from those who fought in World War II. Petrova is based on several female Soviet snipers whose confirmed kill count was in the hundreds. “Famous amongst her people and infamous amongst the Germans,” Swenson said, when speaking to one of Petrova’s inspirations, “she is to this day the most successful female sniper in history.”

In taking on the stories of these characters, Sledgehammer Games employed a diverse group of writers, each with their own skill set and perspective on the war.

“In doing a story on World War II,” Narrative Lead Stephen Rhodes said, “a place that’s been well trodden in video games, and using that history and that pivotal moment in time as a springboard to tell unique, interesting stories is one of the most excited parts of the Vanguard campaign.”

“In World War II,” Associate Narrative Designer Belinda Garcia said, “you assume that it’s always on the front lines and I think what our narrative does really well is show that the war was fought everywhere. It was fought in civilian places, and it affected people at home. It affected their loved ones, and it affected all these people that may not have wanted to play a part in the war but had to.”

Narrative Designer Alexa Ray Corriea also reflected on the team’s commitment to the game’s characters, citing a mission that wasn’t quite right until a rewrite session turned into a memorable moment during the game’s development:

“A bunch of us sat down to rewrite the mission, and over the development process, we all sort of ended up owning a character. We’re almost role playing the level as we’re going through it, and we came up with a much stronger script.”

“This team is really something special.”

Activision and Sledgehammer Games also uploaded the launch trailer to the official Call of Duty YouTube channel. Learn about what will transpire in the Call of Duty: Vanguard campaign..

Call of Duty: Vanguard is slated to be released for PlayStaton 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and PC on November 5, 2021.

Geoff said that Gamescom will return to the convention format in 2022. Stay tuned for more information about the in-person convention, and the online events in 2022 by Gamecom’s management here.

EDIT: The livestream, which was from an official Gamescom account, was taken down because… and I quote “This video contains content from SME, who has blocked it in your country on copyright grounds.” So, I’ll replace it here with Geoff’s channel, which is also the also official livestream of Gamescom’s Opening Night Live 2021. Why are companies doing this? These are music done by companies, and used with explicit permission by the game companies!

    Anyhow here it is…

Some maps, characters, weapons, and items will appear from Battlefield Bad Company series, Battlefield 3, Battlefield 1942, and it will be updated after launch. This sandbox will allow you to edit almost anything in the mode… Allow me to quote Battlefield’s website on how they describe it: “The creation suite includes Settings, custom modes, and a Logic Editor so you can build your own signature spin on Battlefield’s sandbox.”

Battlefield 2042 is scheduled to be released for Current Gen, and Next Gen consoles and PC on October 22, 2021.

  • Windows 11 Revealed

    Windows 11 Revealed

On June 24, 2021 – Microsoft unveiled the Next Generation version of Windows. Before this update, Microsoft released a few updates to get ready for Windows 11. These updates are known as “Version 21H1.” If you have Windows 10, update your computers now. The majority of these updates are silent, quiet security updates which also comes packaged with nibble little quality of life improvements. Along with this update, Microsoft released “Package Manager” to collect feedback, bugs, issues before Windows 11 is released. Important to note is that Microsoft leaked Windows 11 before this announcement on June 24th. So, by the time the official communication from Microsoft was released, many technology journalists, and observers got their hands on Windows 11.

The Xbox division at Microsoft also released their statement on Windows 11, they said that Microsoft is unifying both Windows and Xbox to bring a seamless experience for PC players. With the release of xCloud, and Xbox Game Pass, this “Play Anywhere” philosophy blur the lines of integration between Windows and Xbox. Concurrent with the announcement, Microsoft released an official demonstration of the Windows 11 interface…

No official release date has been confirmed for Windows 11, but Microsoft has penciled a Holiday 2021 release window. I don’t know about you, but Halo Infinite‘s release hinges on its compatibility with Windows 10, Windows 11, AND Xbox Series S & X consoles. Most of the features that is pre-installed with Windows 11 is already available in Xbox Series S and X in some shpae or form.

There’s a strong chance that Halo Infinite and a major Xbox Series S and X update ships with Windows 11 based on my connecting dots. Microsoft penciled Halo Infinite for Holiday 2021, and I’m seeing the same with Windows 11. Both can be delayed at a moment’s notice, so don’t be surprised. Which is probably why they’re extremely quiet about everything. They want this to be a topic of the holidays.
