  • Modern Warfare 3’s third Elite Drop is a good entry.

I reviewed the first and second batches of Elite Drops over the last few months. Activision recently released new maps to Xbox Live. In the midst of the release of new maps to Xbox Live, Activision released Sanctuary, and Foundation to PlayStation Network for PS3 owners with a Call of Duty Elite subscription. I recently downloaded them and spent some quality time with both Sanctuary, and Foundation.

Sanctuary: In high-rise Central Greece, you’re battling on monastery grounds. Sanctuary isn’t just a perfect sniper haven. It’s also a run n’ gun map. I like this map, but there are a lot of problems with the map itself. I don’t have to tell you that the spawns in this map sucks. Once you kill a player in Sanctuary, he respawns within’ seconds of you killing him. If you’re not careful, you’ll be spawn trapped by the same person you killed just moments ago. The other problem I have is some areas are perfect longshots, like those hallways – problem is – each end of the hallways have a few steps, and this creates a problem because if you’re standing on the high ground, your LMG or SMG won’t kill the person on the other side in time. This makes it easy for players to run away from you. There are some camping spots, but it’s not as bad as the others.

Foundation: You’re now in South Korea, and you’re in the middle of a decommissioned concrete factory. This is one of the better looking MW3 maps yet. There’s so much detail in every area of the map, it’s incredible. A lot of attention to detail, and a lot of care was done to this map, and it shows. I think this map is worth more than the other MW3 maps. I think that this map should’ve been shipped with MW3 at launch. Everywhere you go, there’s just so much detail put into one area. It’s a great run n’ gun map. It’s also a great sniping map, too. I wish there was more variety for sniping in here. And the best part is, it’s not really a perfect camping map, at all.

If you do not have a Call of Duty Elite subscription, do not fear. Sanctuary and Foundation will be included in the next MW3 Collection that includes 5 other maps.

If you’d like to know how I felt about all of the maps that have been released thus far, here they are: First Drops Piazza and Liberation, and Second Drops Overwatch, Black Box, Black Ice, and Negotiator.

Stay Tuned for more impressions of Modern Warfare 3′s maps in coming weeks and months. The content drops so far are part of the content season that Activision is holding throughout the entire year.

  • Introducing Modern Warfare 3 Face Off mode

The developers of Modern Warfare 3 revealed the new Content Collection 2, and new DLC details. Along with the announcement, Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games let it slip that they’re introducing a new mode called Face Off. Since then, there was not enough information about the mode other than the fact that the mode will release around May 15th, and will come with two new maps. They also said the mode would be comprised of small team games.

In a separate trailer released by Activision, the developers of MW3 went into detail about what Face Off entails. Face Off is a game mode that pits one or two players against one or two players. The Face Off mode itself will be released on May 16th on Xbox Live first, and as usual, the other platforms follow suit. The two maps that release alongside Face Off are Aground and Erosion. And then, two more maps will be released on May 22nd. Anyhow, enjoy the new trailer…

  • 5th MW3 DLC goes to Xbox Live

Last month was a crazy month for both developers of MW3, and MW3 fans alike. In April, non-Call of Duty Elite subscribers on PlayStation 3 were treated to the release of MW3 Content Collection 1 on PlayStation Store. Shortly thereafter, one of the developers behind Modern Warfare 3 released a duo of maps called Sanctuary and Foundation. This month, developers of MW3 released a lot of information about the next DLC to release on Xbox Live first. On May 15th, those who have a Call of Duty Elite subscription will be able to download Content Collection 2. Shortly thereafter, it will be released on the full scale Xbox Live service on May 22nd. It will release shortly afterwards on other platforms.

There will be a new mode, and it’s called “Face Off.” This mode is comprised of small-team games. With the announcement, the developers announced that there’ll be 2 free maps that is going to be released to everybody. Not just you, not just him, not just I, EVERYONE. It does not require a Call of Duty Elite subscription to get these free maps. It’s free. That means, you do not have to pay at all! The two free maps are called Aground and Erosion, they both release on May 15th.

So, let’s recap: Content Collection 2 will include:

3 Multiplayer maps: Sanctuary, Foundation, and Oasis
2 Spec Ops missions: Killswitch, and Iron Clad
2 Face Off maps: Lookout, and Getaway

Infinity Ward, and Sledgehammer Games talk about the features, the maps themselves, and the release dates in this exclusive trailer released to IGN.com.

    What about us PC owners?
As usual, you guys are going to have to wait. Although there is some good news for you PC owners. You see, the first Content Collection was released to Steam and it will cost you $14.99. [source] So, at roughly 15 dollars, you get the following six maps:

That’s not all… You guys got an update to your playlist. You guys will now be treated to a community playlist that features Infected, and FFA Gunplay. • First details of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2

First details of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2

After months, and months of rumors and speculation, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is official. The game was leaked early Monday morning across many gaming websites on the internet. So far there were a trio of leaked Black Ops screenshots, and Black Ops 2 box art for PS3, PC, and Xbox 360. Activision also revealed Black Ops 2 on live television during the NBA playoffs on TNT. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will release on November 13th, 2012.

First things first, this is what you’ll see when you finally get your hands on it this November:

Call of Duty Black Ops 2 for PlayStation 3

Black Ops for PC | Black Ops for Xbox 360

Great! What do we know so far!?
The first killstreak was revealed to be a Quadrotor. FPSRussia did a video to show off a prototype Quadrotor, which isn’t on the market until at least 10 to 20 years from now. What it does and how it controls are viewable below…

Before the game was revealed on live TV, websites got ahold of in-game images of the Quadrotor. Here they are: Black Ops 2 screenshot 1 and screenshot 2.

The game’s setting is obviously in the future. The game takes place in 2025, a 21st century Cold War has erupted. Black Ops 2 thursts you into a new world where technology and weapons creates a new generation of warfare. Black Ops 2 has robotic tanks that are now a heavy focus. [Image] Most likely to be one of Black Ops 2’s killstreaks. That’s not all, there are a lot of futuristic aircrafts shown in this reveal trailer. One of the scenes shows an interface where you’re actually inside the aircraft. It’s possibly another killstreak. Enjoy the trailer…

    – Frank Woods was a Sergeant in the United States Marines.
    – Mr. Woods is obviously highly decorated in the Marines.
    – Mr. Woods is wrinkly and old now, and is talking to someone. [Update: Possibly his son.]
    – Mr. Woods says he expected that technology would grow strong, and that we as people are weak.
    – What happens if someone steals the keys to our unmanned weapons? That’s the question posed by Mr. Woods.
    – The enemy can be anywhere, and it could be anyone. That’s the theme in Black Ops 2.
    – The game also seems to take place on American soil, other scenes seems to take place in other countries.
    – You ride a horse in the campaign, possibly to be safe from unmanned control.
    – Black Ops 2’s marketing slogan is “The future is Black.”
    – Quadrotor – Possible Killstreak
    – Robotic Tanks [they’re called CLAW tanks] – Possible Killstreak
    – Futuristic Aircraft[s] – Possible Killstreak
    – Compact, Mobile turrets – Possible Killstreak

    Source: G4

    – A new game mode has been revealed, and it’s called Strike Force.
    – Strike Force will alter your story in Black Ops and vice versa.
    – The goal of Strike Force is to make the game non-linear than previous games in the series.
    – Strike Force is more or less a sandbox mode.
    – You can control a squad or battalion.

    What about Zombies?

    – Zombies will make a return in Black Ops 2, but we have no idea which period it’s going to take place.
    – Treyarch is being really ambitious with Zombies. There will be more zombies, and more modes.
    – Zombies will be strapped onto the multiplayer engine.

    …And Multiplayer?

    – Treyarch is trying to take a “one size does not fit all” approach to multiplayer.
    – The entire multiplayer experience will take place in 2025, none will take place in the 80’s.
    – They’re changing a lot of things to shake up the Call of Duty formula.

We’ll have more soon. Activision is holding an investor call next tuesday, May 9th.

  • Black Ops 2 or Call of Duty: Eclipse?

Black Ops 2 or Call of Duty: Eclipse?

There are a lot of rumors swirling around the next Call of Duty title. The question on everyone’s mind is: “What’s the name of the next Call of Duty game?” I’m going to start from the beginning just so you keep track on the state of Call of Duty. In August, there were rumors that the next Call of Duty title would be “Iron Wolf.” Followed by an image that shows an employee at Activision, is indeed playing Iron Wolf. [source] There’s just one problem with that, MW3 was months away from release. It could have been a QA disc of Modern Warfare 3. Let’s not forget Call of Duty XP was just going to take place a month later.

Okay, so how did we get here?
Ever since Black Ops was released, a lot of people already finished the game. The ending for Call of Duty: Black Ops pits Mason at helm of killing Nikita Dragovich. President Kennedy authorized the assassination of Nikita Dragovich. At the time, Soviet Union created an uprising during the presidency of Kennedy in the Black Ops story. By the time Mason gets his hands on Dragovich, and attempts to kill him, Mason’s last words to Dragovich was “And you tried to kill Kennedy.” Shortly thereafter, Dragovich responds “I tried to?” Once Mason ascends to the surface of the ocean, Mason makes his way to his comrades and one of the colonels says “It’s over.” But Mason says “for now…” Question is, what did he mean? Did this mean that Dragovich wasn’t the real enemy in Black Ops? Surely this is a cliffhanger ending.

    That was 1961
Yeap. On May 25th, 1961, President Kennedy proposed sending men to the moon. Going by the period in which Black Ops takes place. In Black Ops, zombies were a heavy, and I mean, a heavy theme. In fact, once you finished Black Ops and plowed through Mason’s appearance on the famous Kennedy video. You skipped the credits, lo’ and behold the game drops you in the White House where the Zombies invades it. As if the zombies inclusion in World at War wasn’t enough influence.

It wasn’t until Treyarch released a bunch of Black Ops DLC’s that they wanted to send you and the zombies to space. One of them sent you to the moon. Why am I bringing this up? Well, it was in 1969, when an Apollo mission was accomplished. By this time, Kennedy was assassinated already. A new president prevailed. Since the zombies [DLC] map takes place in the moon; What’s with Call of Duty: Eclipse? Well, as you know, eclipses happen when a planet is currently covering the sun, or vice versa. In many cases, the Moon is the one that’s covering the sun. In one of the DLC’s released for Black Ops called Shangri La, an eclipse happens.

That’s two strikes. This rumor about Call of Duty: Eclipse has been leaked to the internet. [source] And has cause a great amount of speculation as to which is the next name of the next Call of Duty title. Few days later, yet another leak points to the next Call of Duty title being on a day of a total eclipse on tuesday, November 13th. [source]

Sooo, what’s Call of Duty: Eclipse then?
If you haven’t been paying attention… The clues have been staring at you for quite some time now. Treyarch has been a huge fan of Zombies, it’s evident not just through World at War, and Black Ops. Treyarch has been releasing a lot of Zombies-based downloable content over the years. Call of Duty Elite was deployed last year, and there’s no doubt that Activision will want to capitalize on this.

I have a feeling based on when Black Ops takes place – John F Kennedy’s presidency, the deployment of astronauts to the moon. Black Ops 2 might take place during the presidency of Lyndon B. Johnson. As you recall, before Black Ops was even revealed, there were rumors that Black Ops would take place in Vietnam. Johnson’s presidency features an escalation of the Vietnam War. How is that a coincidence? News Flash: It’s not. You see, the United States was still doing experiments with the Apollo program.

The last Apollo mission was Apollo 17, on 1972. I think that Call of Duty Eclipse’s 15 “Multi” spots are either multiplayer maps with a strong eclipse theme, like Shangri La was, or zombie maps with a heavy moon theme. Two things that weren’t explored fully in zombies so far: The Apollo missions – one thing that’s consistent in these missions were the speculation – rumors and speculation that there’s another life form than humans.

These “Multi” spots may also refer to 15 Elite Drops since, after all, the contract between Activision and Microsoft ends this year. [press release]

I would also like to point out that, one of the things talked about with regards to zombies on Black Ops or Modern Warfare 2/3 was universal among Call of Duty fans – the next type of species: The aliens. The other un-explored theme in zombies is Mars.

Either that, or Call of Duty: Eclipse replaces Call of Duty: Zombies in name.

That said, I’m sorry but the next Call of Duty title is Black Ops 2. [source] We’ll know more starting April 28th [source], May 1st or 2nd, and that’s not all, there’s an Activision investor call on May 9th. Next week is going to be a crazy week.

  • Modern Warfare 3′s second Elite Drop is a good entry.

Modern Warfare 3′s second Elite Drop is a good entry.

I reviewed the first batch of Elite Drops recently, as Activision continues the MW3 Content Season this year. In February, only one map was released and it’s called Overwatch. In March, three maps were released. Black Box was the only multiplayer map, and they bundled two Spec Ops missions with this drop; Black Ice, and Negotiator. Well, they’ve all been released onto PlayStation Store, and I went and downloaded them with my ever so nice Call of Duty Elite pass.

    MW3 Multiplayer Drops:

Overwatch: You’re going to be a-top a high-rise building that’s under construction. It’s a good map for all types of gameplay, but like Highrise in Modern Warfare 2, you’re going to have to be worried about campers and snipers all around. The problem with the map is that the middle of the map cramps your style. You won’t see a lot of snipers on any side of the squared circle, instead, you’ll find them rushing through the sides. The only mode[s] that’s perfect for this map is domination and other team modes. Forget trying FFA in here, forget trying Kill Confirmed here. Forget it. This is obviously a team-based map.

Black Box: In this map, you’re in the streets of a suburb. Where the president’s U.S. aircraft crashed into. This map is better. You will find all types of players in this map. And likewise, players use all types of locations in Black Box. You’ll find campers, run n’ gun, snipers, strategic players, you name it. But what I do see more of in this map is players actually move. In my opinion, I think it’s a varied map, and I love it. It’s only problem is that a bit, too much. A lot of the buildings have many rooms. Not everyone is going to be able to memorize the map entirely.

    MW3 Spec Ops Drops:

Black Ice: This is not “just another Spec Ops map.” Quite on the contrary, in fact, this is one of the most unique DLC I’ve seen yet for a first person shooter. Sure, you may have played this type of snowmobile chase in Modern Warfare 2, but it is still unique for a DLC. You are going to be in the ice-cold snow this time, and you’re on a snowmobile rushing through the cliffs. These cliffs offers you two paths to duke it out with your foes. It’s all fast and furious in here.

Once you’re finished with evading your enemies and killing them off… You will come to a stop. From here, you’re going to go inside the cave and battle it out with your foes.

Negotiator: This is also another unique map but only because you start out with no weapon. You need to steal it from the enemy in front of you, and you have to act fast before another hostage in front of you is killed. From here, the game puts you in a cat and mouse race for rescuing other hostages. Not only do you have to be fast, you need to be precise in order to keep your hostages safe. I dunno about you, but I think that’s unique.

Stay Tuned for more impressions of Modern Warfare 3′s maps in coming weeks and months. The content drops so far are part of the content season that Activision is holding throughout the entire year.

  • Police Warfare is KickStarted

A fan made a video intending to pitch to Activision about his idea for a new Call of Duty game has created Elastic Games, a group of developers from companies such as UbiSoft, Epic Games, Crytek, and Electronic Arts. Elastic Games’ talent pool has a track record of developing hard-hitting games – Far Cry 3, Medal Of Honor: Airborne, Golden Eye, Killzone 2, Assassin’s Creed 2, Crysis 1/2, Gears Of War, and Grand Theft Auto 4. Anyhow, here’s the original pitch video…

Don’t get excited though, this was just a pitch video, it does not mean that the game is going to see the light of day in retail. Even though that it shows “Call of Duty: Police Warfare,” it does not mean the game is officially backed by Activision. It’s just a concept they’ve thrown at Activision.

Elastic Games started a KickStarter project asking fans or would-be investors to pledge support for the project. James Wearing, the lead developer on the Police Warfare project says that the team has been hard at work for 6 months in pre-production of the game. His new pitch is below…

Elastic Games has made a budget of $325,000 goal for Police Warfare. The deadline is May 18, a few weeks before E3 opens it’s doors.

I have made a poll over at CODForums to see how receptive this game is.

  • 4th MW3 DLC rushes to Xbox Live

Beachhead Studios released the third month’s worth of Call of Duty Elite drops. Shortly thereafter, Modern Warfare 3’s biggest map pack was released to Xbox Live, and pretty soon to PS3. The map pack was designed to accommodate the larger scale Call of Duty community that didn’t buy or aren’t buying into the Call of Duty Elite program. The MW3 Content Collection or MW3 Map Pack includes 6 maps in all; 4 multiplayer maps, and 2 Spec Ops maps. They are: Liberation, Piazza, Overwatch, Black Box, Black Ice, and Negotiator. Few days ago, without warning, someone at Activision or Beachhead Studios released two trailers for two maps that has recently been released to Xbox Live members with a Call of Duty Elite subscription. I was watching the Call of Duty Facebook page for the trailers, but I found out the hard way this afternoon that the trailers did in fact release to Youtube. I think this has more to do with Robert Bowling leaving Infinity Ward, because the trailers below are from a different channel.

The first map is Foundation. It takes place on an abandoned concrete factory stationed in South Korea. It has almost everything; sniping spots, run n’ gun, long distance shots, steep downhill and uphill battles.

The second map is Sanctuary. It takes place in a religious greek monastery up hi-rise in central Greece. You will battle in cliffs, bridges, religious rooms that are either churches, eating rooms, and Sanctuaries. Monks of Greece have come across this sanctuary, and some have lived here!

As always, PS3 and PC gamers are going to have to wait for these maps to be released. ‘Till next time!

  • DMC is lookin’ crazier than ever

Devil May Cry has been a subject of controversy for quite a while. Even I shared my own displeasure with the reboot of Devil May Cry. Many people did not like the idea of Dante being portrayed as this crack addict, but the developers Ninja Theory intended to portray Dante as a beaten character. He was tormented by demons as an orphan, he was raised in institutions, youth correctional facilities, and foster homes mostly managed by demons. In his early life, he grew a deep hatred of demons because he sees the world as an unfair society. Capcom released a trailer about Dante as a “Public Enemy” of the society as a whole, which goes in line with his outcast feeling with regard to the world he lives in. Dante shows deep disrespect for authority in this awesome trailer…

Warning: Trailer features mature content not suitable for children. You have been warned.

Every year, Capcom holds an annual event called Captivate, Capcom usually use the event to show off upcoming games. So, at Captivate 2012, Capcom used the event to show off some gameplay footage of DMC…

Then, Capcom showed off how the world is like in DMC. It’s an alternate breathing world that Dante lives in, and it shows. When you get to a climax point of the game, your demonic powers comes to a head. In this video, the world is constantly changing, so Dante has to adapt with time with Devil Trigger…

I must say, Devil May Cry is looking better, and better each time!

  • There’s no more hope left in Resident Evil 6

There’s no more hope left in Resident Evil 6

Resident Evil 6 was revealed recently, but at Capcom’s annual media event called Captivate, Capcom revealed the second trailer for RE6. At Captivate 2012, Capcom released a lot of news surrounding many of their upcoming games. In an interview, Capcom said that the game is much longer than Resident Evil 5, and you can choose alternate characters whom has a part of the story. They all have different perspective, and there’s an overlap. Nemesis returns, and I don’t think he’s going to play nice. Finally, Capcom revealed a new release date for RE6, it previously was supposed to arrive in November, but instead it will arrive just in time for Halloween. October 2nd is the date to mark on your calendar!

There isn’t any more hope left in Resident Evil 6 because the world has become an Armageddon. Oh, and there are no plans for a Wii U version of Resident Evil 6.
