I don't think it will match it, I think the game just has too much detail going on for the VITA hardware to process at the same level. I can easily see the VITA matching Unchartered 2 though, possibly pushing the hardware a bit. But lets not also forget the VITA games come on 4GB of storage space, the PS3 uses BlueRay with up to 50GB for all those textures etc..
Room has little to do with how complex graphical solutions can be pushed.
This is what the 3DS and Vita basically demonstrate already.
When the vita uncharted shots got showcased + demonstrated at the e3 ( forest part ) alot of people where stunned by how much higher visually the device actually was. People didn't aspected it because of the 4gb cartridge restrain and having about the same ram solution as the ps3/xbox360 ( about ).
People these days constantly seem to think only on factors that have nothing to do with anything.
Boy oh boy did they got a wake up call at that time. and as far as we know golden abyss is going to be pushed on a 4gb cartridges.
Extra room provides ( like harddisk space / blu-ray space or cartridges space ) more unique content. If there simple isn't space to build 20 for example swords because you only have room for 5 swords. Then you can easily just make the color of the swords different and call them different names but use the same model and texture in general. at this point you can push out even 100 swords, they are just not really unique as you simple do not have enough space for it.
Instead of a forest with 100 different tree's you got only 5 different tree's, but that doens't prevent you from making a forest. What does prevent you from projecting that forest = hardware performance ( gpu/cpu and ram to some degree ).
Cartridge space doesn't really impact it much.
Although it isnt much, i just want to add this.
The ps3 was/is difficult to develop for which is why it took so long for quality games to come to the ps3 and developers are still unlocking the ps3's potential. While the Vita is said to be much easier to develop for and such, there COULD be less room for improvement. Im not saying UC:GA is the best we will get, what im saying is that there may not be such a large jump in quality as there was on the ps3.
They will push some good visual games out of it for sure, if sony decides to sponser it. I'm already happy its capable of pushing out better then last gen efforts tho.
Still you are right on this. the games will jump lesser on visual solution upwards then the ps3 for sure. Its clear what its able to push already at this date. it will just look more polished over time.
The big issue why the ps3 didn't jumped on visual solution forwards that early was because of the design solution of the ps3. it wasn't mend to push out high polygonal solutions upfront, this makes the ps3 incredible complicated to work with. and thats why a lot of developers are not willing to do this.
Anyway i'm happy to see they learned from that mistake with the ps3 and gave the vita not only a solid cpu performance solution but also a solid ram but specially gpu solution.
I really do hope to see a red dead redemption on it

But I don't think the first Vita COD will be made by either of these companies. I think they will first make B company produce it so if it failes (like the PSP version) it wont be a hard hit to the series. If it concours and gets tremendous sales the next one might be by a big team from IW of Treyarch.
