Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
Microsoft acquired Activision for $95 per share, valued at $68.7 billion. So, since October 2023, Activision has been in full control by Microsoft. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is the first Call of Duty title to be released under the Microsoft umbrella. It is also the first Call of Duty game to be released outside of the contractual 10-year exclusivity agreement. During Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase, Phil Spencer announced that Call of Duty’s content will be free of any kind of exclusivity, meaning that all consoles get the same content at the same time. No ifs, or buts. For example, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s beta will be available across all platforms, all at the same time. No exclusivity.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has a unique marketing strategy this year, it started leaking little by little. At first, Activision launched a website called “TheTruthLies.com” to have players on a scavenger hunt for clues again. But, at the same time, Activision released a newspaper ad, written like a newspaper, but designed a little bit like an actual propaganda article. To play into the Cold War scenario that we are currently in. Americans are divided not just in opinions, but also ideologies. Perfect Dark has a legendary past. Created by Rare Ltd., Perfect Dark was born out of the ideas from and of “Golden Eye 007” for Nintendo 64. Golden Eye was made popular, and still has a cult following to the point of any time nostalgia reigns supreme, Golden Eye is the first thing people talk about when they talk about… Nintendo 64. In 2002, Microsoft acquired Rare Ltd. For 22 years, Microsoft couldn’t get Goldeneye on their Xbox console, until Xbox Series consoles. [Source] The whole thing is a storyline of itself. There are multiple Intellectual Property (IP) holders of Goldeneye. To begin with, Nintendo owns the exclusivity rights to Goldeneye for Nintendo 64. While the trademark owners of Goldeneye is the original film production company that made it – Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM). It is a convoluted mess, Rare decided on creating a brand new Intellectual Property that uses the same engine that powered Goldeneye for Nintendo 64.
