Recap of Call of Duty [2022] News:

  • Infinity Ward explains how Gunsmith works in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II

Infinity Ward explains how Gunsmith works in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II

Recently, Infinity Ward took to the official Call of Duty Blog to explain how Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II’s Gunsmith 2.0 system works. Alongside the blog post, Activision released a new “Intel Drop” in the form of a video on YouTube. I’ll try to explain it the way I understand it. Weapon Vaults are now higher value “bundles.” If you pre-order Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, you’ll get FJX Cinder Weapon Vault. Notice that it’s not actually a bundle? It’s its own class of items. In that Weapon Vault, you can customize your “platform” to customize your weapon. The “platform” is the base of which your weapon can be customized from.

As you can clearly see, you can modify your barrel with different styles. You can also modify the grip, the bullet case, and the stock bumpers.

Here is the first look at the Gunsmith 2.0 system. It behaves similarly to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019), except there is a new way of modifying your weapon. Previously, your weapon had to be modified ONE. BY. ONE. And it has to be earned ONE. BY. ONE. No more. Your “weapon platform” is the base of which you modify your entire weapon. A better illustration of that “platform” is below…

As you can see, the “platform” is actually the base of the weapon. So, your weapon attachments are compatible with the class of the platform. In here there are 5 platforms to choose from. That platform can use or can be modified with each other’s modifications. So, weapon attachments are compatible with each other in THAT platform. Therefore, weapon progression is streamlined better: Your weapon progression is going to be attached to THAT specific platform. So, if you rank up using the M16’s attachment(s), your M4 attachment(s) are ranked up to the same level. This is to reduce redundancy, and reduce the required grind. Before, you had to rank up attachment(s) for each weapon, and the class of weapons. No more. Platforms is how you rank up now.

As you can see, each weapon is derived from the base platform. FTAC Recon and FSS Hurricane uses the same ranks as the M4. Same applies to attachments, modifications, and so on.

I like this image for understanding how “platforms” work going forward. The base of the weapon, in the middle of the screen? That’s your weapon platform.

Weapons will look different depending on how you modify your weapon platform. Everything here looks different from the typical sniper rifle… doesn’t it?

That concludes the tutorial on how Weapon Platforms work, and what Vaults are going forward… Here is a video explaining further. To help you understand it a bit better…

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Gunsmith teased

Activision and Infinity Ward revealed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Multiplayer with livestreams by popular livestreamers like Courage, Teep, ProSyndicate, and Legiqn. Shortly thereafter, fans gave feedback on the reveal, they were positive about the gameplay, but did not like the marketing style. So, upon the feedback, Infinity Ward released a new video to their YouTube channel without commentary, or livestreamers’ faces or voices. With a week to go before they reveal Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s “MP Universe,” Activision took to their blog to talk about a new feature in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Gunsmith.

    Gunsmith: Weapons Detail

The weapons bench is shrouded in darkness. Scattered ammunition is strewn about the surface of the bench. As we inspect the weapons, we discover a pistol lying next to some explosives. Nearby is a pack of grenades.

But we’re here to tool up with an assault rifle. Getting the right selection of attachments is vitally-important to your Multiplayer game. Thankfully, there’s an impressive array of options, as we cycle through some of the many customization options, at various times locking in a Muzzle Break, Balanced Suppressor, Scout Combat Optic, Lightweight Stock, CQB grip, Corp Combat and Holo Sight.

Gunsmithing is a robust weapon customization option for your two main Loadout weapons: Each Primary and Secondary Weapon can be augmented to give you the precise type and style of firepower you require for any type of multiplayer game mode. You can customize up to five parts of each weapon, until your available slots are filled. With Assault rifles, for example, you usually have nine areas of the weapon to augment: The Muzzle, Lasers, Optic, Stock, Rear Grip, Magazine, Underbarrel, Barrel, or a Perk. Choose wisely.

    Now you’re ready for battle.
