First Modern Warfare 4 details ‘coming soon’

Activision has already confirmed that a new Call of Duty title is in the works. [MW4Blog article] Activision’s Community Manager Dan Amrich (A.K.A. One Of Swords) offered up information regarding the next entry in the Modern Warfare series. Mr. Amrich uploaded a video to answer user questions about the next Call of Duty title, or “Modern Warfare 4.”

Mr. Amrich took the opportunity to sell Call of Duty: Black Ops II in the video with the recently released “Revolution,” Personalization Packs, and the recently released “Uprising.” He also said there’s more DLC to come after Uprising. But he did offer these re-assurances:

    – Typically, and historically, Call of Duty reveals are in May.
    – Just be patient. Info is coming “very soon.”
    – If you’re looking for info on MW4, it’s a bit too early to do so.
    – Info should be coming out just before E3, or at E3.

Amrich is right, but sometimes, reveals are in April, too. For example, with Black Ops, the first info came out precisely on April 30th. [Wikipedia] And Black Ops II’s info came starting April 9th, into April 28th. [Wikipedia] Whereas, MW4 follows the Modern Warfare reveals timeline. MW2 for example was teased during GDC, and then revealed on May 10th. [Wikipedia] MW3’s marketing was a little different. There was a massive leak on May 13th, then into the Conference Finals on the 23rd of May. [Wikipedia] And nobody believed the leaks until the trailer(s) were released.

  • Is this the Modern Warfare 4 Teaser?

Is this the Modern Warfare 4 Teaser?

GDC (Game Developers Conference) is on-going as I type, and there seems to be a lot of speculation, and buzz towards Battlefield 4. It’s possible that Activision is waiting for the right time to reveal the next entry in the Call of Duty franchise. So, during GDC 2013, someone posted a teaser trailer for the next Call of Duty title. And it’s pointing straight at… MW4? Have we seen the first teaser of Modern Warfare 4?

So, the first thing that we know about the new game is that SAS makes a return. The game takes place somewhere in Mexico. The teaser also shows Captain Price, then goes into Modern Warfare-style backdrop, and zaps into “MW4.”

What do you think so far? Is this the real deal, or is this another fake?

  • The steam continues to pick up for MW4.

The steam continues to pick up for MW4.

A few days ago, a twitter poster got ahold of an image for this “unexpectedreveal” campaign. Then a few websites got ahold of it. But there were no concrete evidence to support it. Now, UnexpectedReveal counted down to zero, which is today. There seems to be some evidence to support the twitter image via a fan-made video.

I think we’ve got the first confirmation that the next Call of Duty title is indeed Modern Warfare 4.

    1. ZeroTwoFourOne is the account name for this particular Youtube Channel. If you haven’t been paying attention to that name alone.. Let me spell it out for you: That’s a similar username to Robert Bowling’s username across social networks – FourZeroTwo. Just add a 1 and you’ll understand where they’re going with the channel.

    2. The fan-made video was made by the same guy directing and the same production team that did “Operation Kingfish” as a lead-up to Modern Warfare 3’s actual reveal. To see the video, here ya go:

    3. This YouTube channel calls itself “The MW4 insider.”

    4. As you can see, from this fan-made video, the logo that has been used in many fan-made MW4 posters is done in Activision, and co. style.

    5. They’re using Ghost as reference throughout the later half of the video. This directly confirms that the story is about Ghost. Yes, that ghost.

    6. The musical score and the actual scripting seems to take a page out of “The Dark Knight Rises.” To boot, they directly confirm that the whole theme of the story is about the “rise” of a legend.

A lot of websites are saying to take this with a grain of salt. Like this one. But some sites are calling it “Call of Duty 4” and not Modern Warfare 4. We already have Call of Duty 4. It’s Modern Warfare 4, people!

  • Modern Warfare 4 is coming

    Modern Warfare 4 is coming

We’ve come a long way since Modern Warfare 3 was released. It’s been 2 and a half years since we’ve heard the first whispers of Modern Warfare 3 hitting the shelves. Black Ops 2 was released in November, roughly 5 months. Not only that, Black Ops II took to the bank 1 billion dollars in 15 days. Activision has gotten better at selling copies of Call of Duty on a yearly basis.

I mean, it took 17 days for the box office seller Avatar to reach 1 billion dollars. It took Modern Warfare 3 a day less to reach 1 billion. Activision plans to break this record again in the future. If they plan to do that, I think they’ll come back with a well known name. That name is Modern Warfare. But that’s not the only reason why I think Call of Duty: MW4 is the final name of the next Call of Duty title. There’s a lot of reasons…

The name has been thrown around for a while now.
Modern Warfare 3 was months away from release, Sledgehammer Games was excited to show interest in working on MW4. [Source] When the name has been thrown around for a while, it usually is the smartest marketing move to bank on it.

    Sledgehammer Games says so.
Sledgehammer Games made a listing for a job. The listing said it’s for the next title in the Call of Duty franchise. [Source] Going by Sledgehammer Games’ interest in making the next Modern Warfare title, I’m inclined to think that the next Call of Duty title is a Modern Warfare title.

    Neversoft says so.
There was a massive leak by a Neversoft insider stating that MW4 is in development. [Source] There’s a quote that directly confirms that MW4 is indeed in development.

    We expect it.
Still reading, and still second guessing? Well, there are a lot of rumors swirling that the next title is MW4. [Source]

Activision announced that it’s working on the next Call of Duty title.
During an investor call, the C.E.O. of the publishing arm of the Activision Blizzard, Inc. company said that a new Call of Duty title is coming in 2013. [Source]

Little details can lead as confirmation.
There was a scam going around on the internet, supposedly giving you a chance to get a Modern Warfare 4 beta before the game is released. [Source] It was shut down by the owner of the domain. [Source] This scam may not be much, but lends into my earlier point. If the name has been thrown around long enough, it’s a smart marketing move to use that name.

    The steam is picking up
A lot of sites are speculating about Modern Warfare 4 for months. Like this one in January, from Offical PlayStation Magazine. And will continue until the reveal.

Unexpected Reveal? More like expected reveal, Activision!
An alleged Infinity Ward employee registered, and launched a website, called ““unexpectedreveal.com” The site teases that the next Call of Duty reveal is in a matter of weeks. [Source] With Battlefield 4 being revealed on March 26th, this is quite the coincidence. [Source]

The teaser site infers that the next Call of Duty title is a Modern Warfare title. In fact, the screenshot was of Modern Warfare trademark: A blurry screen with “Objective Updated.” Most of the fonts used in these screenshots were in Modern Warfare style.

MP1st brings up an excellent point: There was a similar lead-up with Modern Warfare 3. So, why was Activision so quick to deny it to websites? We’re expecting it, Activision. No sense in hiding!
