Mortal Kombat 11 gets new Kombat Pack, and heads to Next Gen

In August, it was revealed that Mortal Kombat 11 was going to get its first Kombat Pack starting in August. The Kombat Pack started off with 2 characters: Shang Tsung (MK Movie version), and Nightwolf. Terminator T-800 has already been released. Sindel has already been released. Joker was already revealed during The Game Awards. Joker was then released on January 28th. Spawn was finally released March 8, 2020. On May 5th, we got a teaser trailer for an announcement that would come the next day. Nobody understood what the teaser trailer was, and what would be revealed. On May 13, 2020, we got the reveal of Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath. The Aftermath was not just a stand-alone DLC, it was also a full-fledged disc with all DLC released thus far. And now, NetherRealm Studios released a new trailer, revealing Kombat Pack 2. It features 3 upcoming characters: Rain, Mileena, and John freakin’ Rambo. Sylvester Stallone is even lending his voice to the character!

That’s not all we got from the trailer. NetherRealm Studios also announced “Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate” (obviously a pun, and throwback to “Ultimate Mortal kombat 3”), it will feature everything you got from Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath, all of the content from Kombat Pack 2, and more that will be revealed closer to launch.

That’s not all, Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate has been confirmed to launch November 17, 2020 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S & X, and PC.

Oh, there’s more: Mortal Kombat 11, Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath are both Backwards Compatible on both PS5 and Xbox Series S/X. NetherRealm Studios took to PlayStation Blog to detail everything I just said, and more…

Additionally, Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate is PlayStation 5 Upgrade Available, delivering 4K dynamic resolution, enhanced visuals, improved loading times and cross-generation console compatibility for select modes. And current Mortal Kombat 11 and Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate owners and new buyers on PlayStation 4 can access a free upgrade to the PS5 version of their game at no extra cost, available in conjunction with the Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate launch. There’s also Krossplay support, allowing PS5 and PS4 players to fight against other players on opposite platforms in select modes.

  • Sony adjusts PlayStation 4 trophies

    Sony adjusts PlayStation 4 trophies

Sony’s PlayStation division introduced PlayStation Trophies in 2008, a few years after the PlayStation 3 launch. Ever since, there were small incremental changes, and modifications, but never a major overhaul that we’re seeing now with PlayStation 5. Previously, the way you would earn trophies, is you would earn “rewards” known as trophies through accomplishing a quest, side-quest, easter eggs, moves, killstreaks, that sort of thing. When you would get past a stage, level, boss, whatever, you would get a better trophy. When you get ALL the trophies, you get platinum. Well, that sort-of changed. So, instead of just completing trophies, you’re basically… stacking your trophy levels as you progress. Previously, they would tell you how many bronze trophies you have, right? But that metric is now being used to “stack” your levels. Like this image implies… (Also, notice there’s new icons on them…? That also changed…)

I’ll let Sony explain the system, better than I can explain it…

You’ve all heard that satisfying sound when a Trophy pops up on the corner of your screen. There’s the sense of accomplishment when that ultra-rare Platinum trophy is unlocked after hours of pursuing. Trophies were first introduced on PlayStation 3, and have been an integral part of the PlayStation gaming experience. Today, we’re excited to announce we’re bringing some enhancements to the Trophy system.

    New Trophy Levels

The first thing you’ll notice is the big change to your Trophy level. We’re increasing the Trophy level range from the current “1-100” to “1-999,” so following this update, your Trophy level will automatically be remapped to a new level within this new range based on the Trophies you’ve earned to date. For example, if your current Trophy level is 12, your new level will jump to somewhere in the low 200’s. The exact level will depend on the number and grades of trophies you’ve acquired. There will be no changes to the Trophies already earned or Trophy information, such as unlock requirements.

    New Level Calculation Structure

We’ve implemented a new Trophies level calculation system that is more optimized and rewarding. Players will progress quicker through the early levels, and levels will increase more consistently. Platinum trophies will count more toward your level progression, making them even more valuable.

    New Trophy Level Icons

With an expanded level range, we’re also updating the trophy level icon on PlayStation 5, as well as PlayStation App at a later date. Currently the Trophies icon is just a single gold star, but we’re adding a few variants:

    • Bronze: levels 1-299
    • Silver: levels 300 – 599
    • Gold: levels 600 – 998
    • Platinum: level 999

The icons will also have a subtle distinction to visually suggest how close you are to the next level.

Lastly, just for clarity, Trophies that you’ve earned on previous PlayStation systems will come with you to PlayStation 5, just as they have in previous generation transitions. The new Trophy levels will be reflected in all locations that Trophy levels are shown, including past systems, PS App and My PlayStation.

All of these updates will be automatically implemented on the system side, starting later tonight (North America) / tomorrow (Europe).

We’re committed to offering an even better experience for our fans as we head into the next generation of gaming. We can’t wait for everyone to start racking up trophies in all the amazing upcoming games that are launching on PS4 and PS5!

The adjusted trophy system is available now on PlayStation 4, and this system is also heading to PlayStation 5 on November 12, 2020.

Those who digitally pre-order the Call of Duty® Black Ops: Cold War Ultimate Edition (all current and next-generation consoles or PC) will receive the Land, Sea, and Air Pack.

Activision briefly spoke about what the Land, Sea, and Air Packs entail…

Themed around the three classical dimensions of warfare ideal for executing deniable operations in the field, this nine-item bundle will grant three vehicle skins, three Operator skins, and three weapon blueprints, available immediately within Black Ops Cold War at launch. In addition, all Digital Pre-Order Rewards and Open Beta Early Access (see below) are a part of the Ultimate edition.

    Here’s what you get:

    Land Themed Pack

Whether you call it the “motherland” or the “homeland,” these three items will help clean house of any hostile forces.

    ·      Operator Skin –Ground infantry with bandolier and mesh face camouflage.

    ·      Weapon Blueprint – “Sucker Punch” Shotgun – A sawed off-stock and shorter barrel more than mitigates the weight of shells taped to the side, with the weapon’s simple appearance allowing it to blend into most non-tundra engagement environments.

    ·      Vehicle Skin “Red Bear” – The colorful blue hue seems a little worn, but the bright red star on the side will made this a standout tank among a platoon.

    Sea Themed Pack

Suit up for operations at sea to maneuver behind enemy lines.

    ·      Operator Skin –Special operations wetsuit.

    ·      Weapon Blueprint “Black Tide” Assault Rifle – Chambered for 5.56x45mm NATO cartridges, the Black Tide’s a gold standard for any Operator, a fitting label for a blueprint that features subtle, yet intricate, gold accents.

    ·      Vehicle Skin “Leviathan” Skin– A striking zebra-like pattern is only broken up by necessary accessories, including its classy seafaring trim and decals.

    Air Themed Pack

Be a maverick and prepare for take-off with this pack – its contents allow any Operator with ace flying skills to also look the part.

    · Operator Skin – Airborne division operator flightsuit.

    · Weapon Blueprint “Wingman” Pistol – Like any good co-pilot or emergency parachute, this reliable sidearm can be phenomenal in a pinch, and comes with a design that includes a signature fin flash insignia and checkered muzzle.

    · Vehicle Skin “Death Dealer” Skin – This hulking beast of a chopper forgoes the more extreme checkered pattern seen on a Blueprint and Operator Skin for yellow markings on a blue-painted base, with a devilish bomb-dropping caricature plastered on for a dark comedic effect.

In addition, Ultimate edition pre-order players will receive the Battle Pass Bundle (Battle Pass + 20 immediately activated Tier Skips) for use in any Black Ops Cold War post-launch Season.

Activision talked about Pre-Order rewards, and how to get Open Beta Early Access

Activision turned the focus to what would be in the beta, and what you’ll receive at launch for playing the beta…

    What’s Inside the Beta

The Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Beta will feature a mix of maps, modes, and playlists. Similar to past Betas, the Black Ops Cold War Beta will also include a progression system where players can earn XP in order to unlock new content for their loadouts including weapons, equipment, Create-a-Class slots, and Scorestreaks.

Expect frequent updates and a few surprises to take place within the Beta across both weekends and stay tuned to official Call of Duty and Treyarch channels for specific details.

Visit the Cold War landing site to get detailed information on the game, Beta, and specific Beta Multiplayer intel like game modes and Loadouts.

Earn an SMG Weapon Blueprint for Reaching Level 10

All players who reach Level 10 within the Beta will receive an SMG Weapon Blueprint at the launch of Black Ops Cold War.

A Weapon Blueprint is a variant of a weapon family within the game, complete with its own unique name and cosmetic differences. Weapon Blueprints may also come pre-equipped with attachments, allowing you to use them on that specific weapon without needing to level it up to unlock those attachments organically. These attachments can be swapped out in favor of other attachments earned by levelling up the weapon normally.

    Access the Beta

As mentioned through the schedule, digital pre-order customers will be entitled to early access (Thursday and Friday) through their account on which they purchased the game. All other players can still access the open portion of the Beta (Saturday through Monday) for free.

Download the Beta from your platforms respective first-party store and follow the prompts to download. On PC (Week Two), the Black Ops Cold War Beta can be found under “Partner Games”.

    Pre-load Information

Prior to the beginning of each weekend, all players will be able to pre-load the Beta.

    PlayStation 4 (Week 1 and 2): Pre-load the Beta starting on October 6 at 8 a.m. PDT.

Note: If you are on PlayStation 4 and pre-load or download the Beta during its first weekend, you do not need to redownload it for the second weekend. Also, players can delete the Alpha, as the Beta is a completely different file and requires a new download.

Xbox and PC (Week 2): Pre-load the Beta starting on October 13 at 8 a.m. PDT.

Go get the beta, and start playing!

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will be available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and PC via Blizzard’s Battle.net service on November 13, 2020.

  • Microsoft acquires Bethesda

    Microsoft acquires Bethesda

Microsoft has been hyping up the Xbox Series X for almost 6 months now. Originally revealed at The Game Awards (2019) event, Xbox Series X is being touted as the most powerful console, and they have the specs to back it up with it. Microsoft revealed more specs of Xbox Series X. There was a controller leak of the Series S, which shows the same controller, but with a white matte finish, but on the box, it shows when retailers can sell it or display it: November 3rd. This morning, there was a leak of Xbox Series S, but then, Microsoft said “Okay, the leaks are out there now. Let’s just announce it.” And so, in a tweet, Microsoft announced Xbox Series S with the image of the console. Shortly thereafter, Microsoft released the trailer for Xbox Series S. The next morning, Microsoft officially announced the price and release date for Xbox Series X: It will be released November 10, 2020 (same day as Series S), and will cost $499.

Microsoft made a shocking announcement on September 21, 2020 – that Microsoft has acquired ZeniMax Media, the parent company of Bethesda Softworks, Bethesda Game Studios, id Software, ZeniMax Online Studios, Tango Gameworks, MachineGames, Roundhouse Studios, Alpha Dog, and Arkane…

    Xbox Buys Bethesda

This is big, because ZeniMax Media encompasses not just Bethesda, but at least 6 companies under them. Bethesda publishes many games, and has hundreds of games in their backcatalogue. The most recognizable ones are pictured above: Wolfenstein, Doom, Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, Dishonored, Prey, The Evil Within, and the upcoming Starfield title.

Microsoft said they will be mostly “hands off” with the acquisition. They said they’ll leave it alone. It’s business as usual. The previous commitments to Sony’s time exclusive titles will be honored, and going forward, games will be released for platforms on a case-by-case basis. Some will be multi-platform titles, some will be exclusive to the Xbox branded consoles, and some will be available for PC.

It will be open to anyone with a PlayStation account, all you’d need is an internet connection. All you have to do is download it from the PlayStation Store…

Pre-Load of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s Alpha will begin 8am PST/10am EST on September 17, 2020. The next day, September 18, 2020 – Black Ops Cold War’s Alpha’s servers are going live.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will be available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and PC via Blizzard’s Battle.net service on November 13, 2020.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s (and Warzone’s) Season Five arrives on August 5, 2020 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The big theme for Season Five is the arrival of “Shadow Company.” Activision did a blog post about the new update…

Each Season the narrative of Modern Warfare continues to advance. New enemies, heroes, and those with more clandestine reasons for being within the theater of war have risen to fill the void left by AQ forces, ready to counter the emerging threat posed by Mr.Z.

As Season Five approaches, events have transpired and led to the formation of a new group aligned in name only with the Allegiance faction – Shadow Company. Read on to shine a light on this mysterious new private military company before taking these Operators into the heat of battle.

    The Collapse of the Armistice

Initially formed to fight back against a new AQ and their benefactor Mr. Z, the Armistice was a temporary alliance that has crumbled. New Operators dropping into Verdansk have joined the fray to protect their own, as the request has been made to only “send Operators one can trust”.

And for good reason, the distrust has led to infighting, and hostile forces run unchecked in Verdansk. As the rules of the original Armistice agreement have utterly failed, Shadow Company arrives without pretense – they operate on their own terms.

  • UFC 4 Gameplay Trailer released

    UFC 4 Gameplay Trailer released

For those of you who don’t know, UFC stands for Ultimate Fighting Championship, it is an American-held Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) league that celebrates all kinds of fight styles. Electronic Arts currently holds the license for all UFC development and publishing. Since 2015, the EA Sports label has been developing and publishing UFC titles. UFC 4 is obviously the fourth iteration of this lineage of games. Recently, there has been a lot of leaks and rumors about a possible UFC4. During the UFC 251 fight in Abu Dhabi, EA Sports revealed UFC 4…

Premiered Jul 21, 2020 on YouTube, EA Sports revealed gameplay for UFC 4…

EA Sports laid out some of the features of UFC 4 as follows…

It may be surprising for some of you to learn that Ultimate Team is no longer a feature included in our UFC game. It probably isn’t surprising to hear me say that this was not a decision we took lightly. When we introduced our vision for Ultimate Team in UFC 2 and invested in significant updates in UFC 3, our objective was to create deeply engaging experiences for our players, in the same way, EA SPORTS FIFA, Madden NFL, and EA SPORTS NHL Ultimate Team modes have for theirs. However, there are a number of factors that make team sports different from mixed martial arts. We based the final decision on two factors we felt were the most important:

    1. One of the most obvious ones is right there in the word, “team”. MMA is not a “team” sport (I know fighters have teams of coaches and trainers that play a huge role, but only two people step inside the octagon). So Ultimate Team, as a concept, has struggled to fit and resonate in the context of MMA. We spent lots of time and resources in UFC 2 and UFC 3 to make it fun and engaging, but the feedback we received directly and through player data was that it still isn’t as engaging as we intended for it to be.

    2. Speaking of player data; we see, overwhelmingly, less interest in UFC Ultimate Team compared to other titles. Lots of people played it and some still do – but the large majority of our fans prefer to spend their time elsewhere. That fact is loud and clear through our game data and couldn’t be ignored.

Looking at the number of players engaging with UFC Ultimate Team compared to the amount of resources required to develop and support the mode, the math just didn’t make sense. Even to port it from UFC 3 to UFC 4 without any material changes or improvements required significant time and effort, let alone revamping the mode to make it more fun and engaging.

So we made the decision to refocus those resources toward new features and updates we hope all our players will enjoy. In particular, the new Connected fighter profile, challenges, progression, vanity rewards and improvements to created fighter features represent the result of our efforts to create something new and unique to EA SPORTS UFC for all of our players.

If you were, or are, an avid UFC Ultimate Team player we understand that this isn’t good news, and if you’re disappointed, I apologize. Even though it’s a smaller group of fans, we know that those fans enjoy the mode and it is not easy to take that away.

But there’s also lots to be excited about. There are tons of new features and exciting innovations in UFC 4 and I’m excited about being able to share more information with you in the coming weeks. The team will also be monitoring your feedback and questions as we get closer to launch.

Last but not least, I’ve included answers below to some of the most frequent questions we’ve received from you all. Hopefully, this helps everyone understand what’s coming.
