What is Mega Man Universe?

I’ve posted that Mega Man Universe is coming to XBLA, and PSN. And I couldn’t be more excited about the announcement than I am now! Well, because there are a lot of possibilities of what the game might mean. Of course, the game is essentially a new franchise. A planet of Mega Man workshops? Well, how about a UNIVERSE of workshops from all kinds of planets! *winks* The teaser trailer shows some hints and clues about what Mega Man Universe may mean. A lot of people have been speculating about it may be that Mega Man Universe is going for the whole LittleBigPlanet customization.

Well, that may be true. Capcom for quite some time have been really impressed with the level of customization in LittleBigPlanet. It was quite evident when Capcom released Mega Man Powered Up for PSP. Even then, when players got their hands on LittleBigPlanet, many users were estatic about the possibilities. So, when players created levels based on various franchises. Capcom was floored. They loved what they saw, and never sued Sony for it. Just gave its fans a huge nod. They were more flattered about the fanbase’s intense devotion to Capcom and its various franchises. Mega Man especially.

That’s not all. Capcom has been giving 2.5D some thought. They’ve experimented with it for quite some time, too. Mega Man X was re-made on PSP as Mega Man Maverick Hunter X, and other franchises have gotten the 2.5D treatment. One of them being Bionic Commando being re-made into Bionic Commando Re-Armed for PSN, and XBLA.

Capcom has been watching the fan feedback for quite some time after releasing these games. A highly devoted Mega Man fan went as far as creating a fan-made 2D/3D platformer using the Mega Man template. See for yourself:

But it was this video below, that Capcom went and gave the whole project a huge thumbs up:

As of this writing the video has garnered half a million views. No surprise that he’d be hired by Capcom to do this kind of game, or even inspire Capcom to do something similar. Well, if you pay attention in the youtube video below, watch for it at the 1:26 mark.

Pretty obvious he did something. Pretty obvious that Capcom is noticing a fanbase for this particular series of games.

One last thing: Notice that both LittleBigPlanet and this particular Mega Man 2.5D project has co-op. Are we going to be seeing Co-Op in Mega Man Universe? Finally? The long awaited dream of Co-Op? We’ll find out at Comic-Con or beyond.
