Scan forward to the section about Oblivion Shivering Isle on the 360/
PC - they talk about and show the PS3 version of Oblivion.

According to the 1up previewer, the PS3 version lacks a lot of the
upgrades that the 360 version gave, and doesn't perform as well.

Essentially they can't load as much into memory as the can on the 360
and PC versions, and thus had to make significant changes.

It has a completely re-written renderer too. They managed to improve
the distance view, however, that same improvement will be on the 360
version via a patch too!

To elaborate: If you have a blu-ray disk that is slow to access random
game assets, as is necesary for downloadable content for a game like
this, it means the game will be significantly longer to load than even
the 360 version was.

Sure, cache it to the hard drive, but that means a massive delay and
loads of wasted hard drive space, Especially as the 360 version
already does that to eliminate load delays! And if you have to limit
what you can put in RAM to make the game playable and good looking on
the PS3, that means you can't do anything too elaborate.

So what does this mean? Very little. Oblivion will still look good and
play well on the PS3, but it just wont look AS good as the year old
360 version!

It also highlights that cross platform development, even with a year
long extra-time in development, for the PS3 is only going to continue
to highlight the console's weaknesses. Either games are identical or
don't look as polished as their 360 counterparts.

And for the record, games like MGS4 will certainly redress a lot of
the balance - but that's a good 9 -11 months away, and Halo 3 ,
BioShock and Mass Effect are all gorgeous too.

So, how much longer are those cheap blu-ray players going to sit on
shelves?
