Getting good deals from any merchant (Oblivion)

I'm at a level now where the loot I find is worth far more what any merchant
will pay for it, since most merchants are capped at 1200 gold for buying
items. Since I haven't found Oblivion's version of Morrowind's rich merchant
mudcrab (and I don't wanna look at a FAQ or walkthru), I came up with this
workaround, though you have to be a member of the mage's guild and have
access to the Arcane University.

Go to the building in the university that has the spell-making altar, and
create this spell: Fortify Skill (Mercantile), 100 points, self, one second.
It's cheap to make and doesn't cost that much magicka to cast either.

Then any time you're in a shop, just cast this custom spell (I named it Shop
Talk) immediately before you click on the shopkeeper. Assuming the
shopkeeper's disposition is good, you can haggle your way up to 70% or more,
*and* invest 500 gold in the shop, so that the merchant's buying cap is
permanently 500 higher. I've now got a merchant in each major city with a
1700 gold cap (still not great, but it beats 1200) and a way to get good
deals on anything. Now the problem is finding something to spend all this
money on.

Could you point me in the direction of one of these 1200 caped Merchants
please they always seem to be around 800 for me. I've not taken much time
looking around though.

Cheers.

Off the top of my head, A Fighting Chance in the Imperial City Market
District, Hammer and Tongs in Skingrad and the main shop in Chorrol (It's
called Fire and Sword or Flame and Forge or something like that) have 1200
gold weapon merchants. There's at least one in Anvil as well. If you're
looking for other types of merchants with 1200 gold caps, you'll have to
scout around.

Indecision is the key to flexibility.

Well yeah, hence the expression. ;-)

BTW, is any phrase safe from the Aussie penchant for naughty euphemism?

Could you point me in the direction of one of these 1200 caped Merchants
please they always seem to be around 800 for me. I've not taken much time
looking around though.

Cheers.

agreed.

besides the substantial arsenal I'm carrying, I have a crate full of so much
loot (think multiple daedric warhammers) it's not funny. I've maxed out my
trainings (for my level), and still have about 23,000 cash left. and
killing dorks with glass or deadric weapons/armor is so routine now that the
500 extra per item doesn't really matter. I did splurge and by the
apotheosis staff from rindir and the hands of the atronach (sp?) from the
shield guy, but can't find anything else that sounds like it'd be worth
buying. once I can figure out the whole soul trap/varla stone thing, I
should be set, if not, I just recently picked up umbra's sword (fair fight)
and it looks like it'll soul trap, so I can save even more money on getting
my majickal items recharged...guess it's about time for me to start the main
quest...

You can also add a Charm on target as any talking freezes time. Another thing
that stops time is lock picking so a second long fortify to that works as well.
