Anyone here playing Oblivion still?

Since Skyrim came out, I think everyone forgot about Oblivion. Oblivion is the first RPG game that I have played, and I think I've played it a lot more than I played Skyrim. I think I have double or even more than double the hours in Oblivion (I have over 500 in Skyrim). I had around ten different characters, and for each of them the game-time said 100 hours. There are tons of mods for it, and it's not a bad game, it's very interesting. If anyone here hasn't tried this before Skyrim, try it now, you won't get dissapointed, I am sure.

I've never tried it, but I did want to try it out not soon after I got Skyrim. I kinda forgot about it, maybe I'll pick it up on the upcoming steam sale.

Definitely pick it up. Like Skyrim, it has a huge amount of mods as well, and they enhance the game so much more. But, even without mods, especially if you haven't played it before, it is an amazing game and it's actually quite pretty. However, you have to understand it's a few years old. But, there are a lot of graphical mods that enhance water, the lightning, faces etc. The storylines are AMAZING, and my personal favorite is Dark Brotherhood. It is so much better than Skyrim's Dark Brotherhood story. Seriously, you actually have a specific way to kill the target. Example, you will get a reward item if you kill someone but make it look like an accident, or poison someone. It's a fun game, and the Dark Brotherhood is so good. I re-played the game many times, just so I can re-play their quests.

I am definitely still playing it. Mods aside, comparing both vanilla games, Oblivion definitely has the upper hand. While most side quests in Skyrim involved you going to get some guys ring from a grave and fighting 69 Draugr on your way, Oblivion had that crazy dream side quest that I stumbled upon by accident and it was really great!

Oblivion had some amazing quests, now that you mention it. Have you played the one, where you sleep at the ship inn in Imperial City, and the ship gets stolen by pirates? I loved this game for stuff like that, and for the HUGE map. Back then, I considered that a huge map. What's your favorite city, a bit off-topic? Mine will have to be either Bruma (I love snow and wooden houses) or that other city where the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary is, but I have forgot it's name. I remember it's something with R, tho, but don't remember the exact name of it.

Huh, haven't played that pirate mission, I'll look for that for sure. The Dark Brotherhood questline was amazing, definitely unexpected and great. It's this stuff that makes Oblivion and Morrowind infinitely better than Skyrim!

Go play the pirate mission before you forget it. It's in the Imperial City Waterfront. Look for the inn that's on a ship. You have to stay the night at the inn and that will trigger the quest. It's a really fun and interesting quest. You should play it as soon as possible.

Thanks for that. I'll post back as soon as I finished playing it.

Personally I can't go back to Oblivion. Believe me, I loved it when I first got it, but it has not aged well. Everything looks so awkward. I have to say that the quest design was better than Skyrim, though.

I agree! I played it 3 days ago actually, and the graphics nearly made my eyes bleed! I'm still seeing stars.

In all seriousness though, it is a fantastic game. The only reason it's hard to play is because like djdogbone11, I've come from Skyrim, which IMHO is the best slice of Tamriel.

When I was playing oblivion, I loaded an old save that found me talking to Sheogorath and telling him I refuse to do a mission. That was fun, because after which, I was instantly sent up to the sky to be dropped into the death pile. The prince of madness knows how to kill in style am I right?!

I still prefer both Oblivion and Morrowind over Skyrim. I've given Skyrim multiple attempts but never really liked it. It just feels like a dumbed down version of the older Elder Scrolls games, with less features and gameplay but instead only focused on graphics. The graphics aren't even that good, everything looks the same, so I'd rather have fun in Oblivion than playing a game that's not fun at all.

Oblivion was a fine game for me quest-wise, but I just can't get over the fact that the leveling system is so screwed up! Being a traditional min-maxer, it's the one thing that I can't overlook. Anyone who is new to the game will quickly find out that if you don't level up your character in a specific way, you will definitely gimp it. This is a game-breaker for me. Skyrim's leveling system isn't that great either, but at least it's playable.

I have always wanted to play Oblivion, but I have never gotten around to it. I have played Skyrim, though. Is Oblivion better compared to Skyrim? Or vice versa?
