Blizzard set to release faithful Diablo II remaster in 2021

As I type this, Activision Blizzard is hosting an online event called BlizzConline, which is also known as “BlizzCon 2021.” It’s just that Blizzard is calling the event BlizzConline, rather than the usual “BlizzCon” live event. At the event, Blizzard showed off a slew of new trailers during the event. Everything from a new World of WarCraft DLC, a new Hearthstone DLC, a new Overwatch 2 deep dive, with behind the scenes with developer panel, a new Diablo IV (ahem; Diablo 4) trailer showing off a new character – Rogue. Not much is known about Diablo 4 other than trailers and little tidbits, but here is the new trailer…

The biggest announcement from BlizzConline? A remake/remaster of Diablo II known as “Diablo II: Resurrected”! Blizzard is calling it a “remaster,” but they’re doing the whole game from SCRATCH. Every pixel, every cinematic, every soundbyte, every movement, every control input, every design philosophy has been retooled, restructured. Every map, every character has been remodeled, every little item has been remodeled to stay true to the source material. And the best part? Both the remaster and the original source material is playable. If you want to play the original Diablo II game, you can do that, if you want to play it in full 3D with graphical upgrades and all – you can do that.

No release date or the choice of consoles has been revealed about Diablo IV (4), but Diablo II: Resurrected is coming to all known platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Battle.net in the later half of 2021.
