A new Modern Warfare is still happening

This past weekend has been a crazy one – a flurry of leaks towards Call of Duty 2014. These leaks are pointing their crosshairs at the existence of a Modern Warfare title. Most believe that it’s going to be Modern Warfare 4, but after the cliffhanger ending in MW3 – many people are wondering if there’d be a MW4, some are skeptical, some are hestitant to believe that MW4 can actually exist, and many people are reluctant to a possible Modern Warfare 4.

More, and more leaks are pointing Sledgehammer Games’ Call of Duty game to being a new entry in the Modern Warfare series. Whether you like it or not, a new Modern Warfare title is still happening and not a damn thing you can do to stop it.

2014’s Call of Duty is codenamed “Black Smith.”
Recently, at Sony’s annual “Destination PlayStation” event in Scottsdale, Arizona was home to reveals games that’ll be released in the fall and beyond. Destination PlayStation is usually hosted for retailers’ representatives, and buyers. The members of the press has not even seen these games.

Not much was revealed about Black Smith, due to an NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement). The game is internally called, and codenamed Black Smith. The game takes place on or in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, and is the next entry in the Modern Warfare series apparently. [Source]

Sledgehammer Games goes on a hiring spree.
Sledgehammer Games has been going on a hiring spree as of late. Black Smith’s development has been ramping up as Sledgehammer Games are looking for more team members to join the company. 11 positions were posted. Perhaps the most interesting post is one for the [temporary] VFX Artist. Why? Well, they list that they’re looking for a photo-realistic feel to the game…

The VFX team at Sledgehammer Games is looking for experienced and passionate VFX artists to join our AAA team. In this position, the artists will work closely with the Lead VFX Artist, Art Director, Technical Art Director, Lighting and Design team to create the most exceptional real-time effects with hyper realism for our current project. The candidates will have the opportunity to contribute in various areas of in-game effects including but not excluding weaponry effects, vehicle destruction, large-scaled rigid body simulations and environmental effects such as fire, smoke, water, and weather system.

The ideal candidates should demonstrate a high level of artistic sense and strong technical skills. They should drive hard and challenge themselves with the goal of being masters of the craft.

And then, there’s the qualifications that were interesting…

Qualifications:

At least 2 to 3 years of next-gen visual effects development on console hardware (360, PS3).
Experience with and a good working knowledge of the limitations and expectations of current generation hardware (360, PS3).
– Excellent working knowledge of Maya and Photoshop.
– Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with both Artists and Programmers.
– Possesses a good art sense (e.g. knowledge of composition, color, 3d modeling and painting).
– Strong texture creation skills.
– Experience in using and modifying real-time materials.

Mostly because Eric Hirshberg previously said that Sledgehammer Games’ Call of Duty title would be a “Next Gen First [Priority]” and that current generation console versions will be a version of Next Gen. [Source]

MW4 or Future Warfare?
An “insider” leaked info [and media files] to Drift0r, the same YouTube personality that gave out info about Call of Duty: Ghosts last year. He says that Sledgehammer’s Call of Duty entry will be a new Modern Warfare. Just that it may not particularly be “Modern Warfare 4.” Drift0r says that the game looks like it sports improved visuals, and it’ll take place in the future. The map he previewed also looks like some kind of power plant, a tall structure in a major metropolitan area. It looks like multiple stories, and a hint of elevators… [Source]
