Mortal Kombat 11 gets new Kombat Pack, and heads to Next Gen

In August, it was revealed that Mortal Kombat 11 was going to get its first Kombat Pack starting in August. The Kombat Pack started off with 2 characters: Shang Tsung (MK Movie version), and Nightwolf. Terminator T-800 has already been released. Sindel has already been released. Joker was already revealed during The Game Awards. Joker was then released on January 28th. Spawn was finally released March 8, 2020. On May 5th, we got a teaser trailer for an announcement that would come the next day. Nobody understood what the teaser trailer was, and what would be revealed. On May 13, 2020, we got the reveal of Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath. The Aftermath was not just a stand-alone DLC, it was also a full-fledged disc with all DLC released thus far. And now, NetherRealm Studios released a new trailer, revealing Kombat Pack 2. It features 3 upcoming characters: Rain, Mileena, and John freakin’ Rambo. Sylvester Stallone is even lending his voice to the character!

That’s not all we got from the trailer. NetherRealm Studios also announced “Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate” (obviously a pun, and throwback to “Ultimate Mortal kombat 3”), it will feature everything you got from Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath, all of the content from Kombat Pack 2, and more that will be revealed closer to launch.

That’s not all, Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate has been confirmed to launch November 17, 2020 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S & X, and PC.

Oh, there’s more: Mortal Kombat 11, Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath are both Backwards Compatible on both PS5 and Xbox Series S/X. NetherRealm Studios took to PlayStation Blog to detail everything I just said, and more…

Additionally, Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate is PlayStation 5 Upgrade Available, delivering 4K dynamic resolution, enhanced visuals, improved loading times and cross-generation console compatibility for select modes. And current Mortal Kombat 11 and Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate owners and new buyers on PlayStation 4 can access a free upgrade to the PS5 version of their game at no extra cost, available in conjunction with the Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate launch. There’s also Krossplay support, allowing PS5 and PS4 players to fight against other players on opposite platforms in select modes.

Yesterday, we got a teaser trailer for an announcement that would come today. Nobody understood what the teaser trailer was, and what would be revealed.

So, what is it? It’s a reveal for many things. First is a DLC expansion to players who already own Mortal Kombat 11. This is a story DLC called “Aftermath.” It features some new characters like Sheeva, and Robocop. Netherrealm did not explicitly say out loud what the “Aftermath” DLC will contain, but we can glean some hints from the trailer released today…

In that trailer, it was announced that the expansion will come with 3 new characters, 3 new skin packs, and “a new cinematic story” which is Aftermath. Alongside this announcement, Netherrealm Studios announced that there’s a collection coming alongside Aftermath. This “Kollection” features the base “Mortal Kombat 11” game, Kombat Pack (1), and the new Aftermath Expansion. New Stage Fatalities, Friendships, and new stages will arrive in that same free Mortal Kombat 11 update. All will be released on May 26th. Check out a snippet of the story below…
