  • Evaluating Black Ops 2 Zombies Mode visuals, gameplay and multiplayer

Evaluating Black Ops 2 Zombies Mode visuals, gameplay and multiplayer

As we approach the end of October those waiting patiently for next months arrival of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will be feeling that the best time to release this game would be during Halloween, making it the ideal situation to bring zombies to our door. Therefore, as we hold on for a few more weeks we thought it would be worth looking at what the zombies’ mode has to offer as far as visuals, gameplay and multiplayer is concerned.

We understand that although this title has a zombie’s mode this isn’t a horror game, but the amount of interest this and the first one has accumulated it would be worth producing an independent Call of Duty zombie title. In an article on Bloody-Disgusting.com they give a premature evaluation of all the aspects of this mode that have come to light, and first up is the visuals. There is a feeling that this part of the game could be improved and the use of the same engine since Modern Warfare may be of concern in regards to the visual aspect.

When it comes to gameplay, they feel the shooting in last game was finely tuned and the difficulty of the zombie mode was ideal, as it was harder to fight, giving it more of a survival feel. So they hope this will be similar in the new game. The multiplayer is the part that many gamers will be focusing on, as the return of the addictive four-player cooperative Survival mode will be welcome news for enthusiasts. A new Grief mode is set to add an element of competition to Black Ops and this will involve two teams of four fighting the undead in a mission to be the only team left, although Treyarch have not given us many details on this, yet.

In other zombie news, G4TV highlight a recent interview with zombies’ mode lead Jimmy Zielinski, as questions were asked about what is to be expected, and how to survive the new modes. The TranZit mode will be story based giving gamers the opportunity to survive an open-world obliterated with hordes of the undead, and the interview gives players some insight into the best way to stay alive throughout this mode. Zielinski mentions that the zombie experience in Black Ops 2 is bigger and more ambitious with three different dimensions of play and the story mode has a massive map with plenty to explore.

This area is all connected by a bus route, which can also be explored in transit or on foot, and some new characters will be encountered, along with some new futuristic weapons to kill them with, although this will involve a strategic approach. The Survival mode is exactly what the title states and main survival areas are adaptations of the locations in Tranzit. Last but not least, Grief is the mode that hasn’t been detailed and this revolves around a last man standing aspect, which will mean whoever is left is part of the winning team, and their are mechanics involved that can divert the attention of zombies on to the opposing team.

Without divulging too much we can see that the three modes have a large amount of gameplay on offer, and continuing with Black Ops 2 our last post mentioned how pre-orders are pippin titles like Halo 4 and Assassins Creed 3 to the top of the charts. Prior to this, we also wrote an article on the Black Ops 2 3DS release rumor that is starting to gain momentum again. Would you like to see a side game like the PS Vita’s Declassified on the 3DS? Or a dedicated zombie version?

  • Top Shooters Battle It Out For Gamers’ Cash

Top Shooters Battle It Out For Gamers’ Cash

Three new first-person shooters are going to explode on our screens next month in what promises to be an intense battle for pre-Christmas sales.

Halo 4 will only be available on the Xbox 360, while Call Of Duty: Black Ops II and Far Cry 3 can reach out to more gamers by being available on the PlayStation 3 and PC as well.

Halo 4 is the first instalment in a new series of Halo games called the Reclaimer Trilogy. It takes place four years after the ending of Halo 3, and marks the return of the Master Chief and Cortana.

While previous Halo games were developed by Bungie, Halo 4 was developed by 343 Industries, Microsoft’s own internal development studio.

The Covenant, an alliance of alien races who served as the main antagonists in the first Halo trilogy, will be making a return along with a new enemy, the Prometheans.

The game sees Cortana wake the Master Chief from cryogenic stasis on board the derelict spaceship Forward Unto Dawn. They are attacked by rogue elites and grunts and end up crashing on the planet Requiem.

    Halo 4
Master Chief – also known as Petty Officer John-117

Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2 takes place in the near future, the original Black Ops game having been set in the Cold War of the 1960s.

The Call Of Duty (COD) franchise began with a WWII theme, shifting to an updated setting with Modern Warfare in 2007, and co-developer Treyarch has now taken the game series into the future for the first time.

Black Ops II – the ninth game in the franchise – features an interconnected story involving the 1970s, the 1980s and future warfare in the year 2025.

Alex Mason, the protagonist from Black Ops, is the playable character for the 70s and 80s sections, while his son David fights off robots, drones and narco-terrorists in 2025.

It is the first COD title to present branching storylines driven by player choice, with Modern Warfare 2, Modern Warfare 3 and Black Ops generally being condemned for being competent but unimaginative shooters.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops II
Blops was a bit of a blooper, but the sequel might save the day

Far Cry 3, an open world FPS developed by Ubisoft, takes place on a tropical island group at the intersection of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. The main goal of the game is to escape from the islands and their crazed inhabitants.

The first Far Cry title was applauded by gamers, offering not just an open world, but numerous ways of taking on the enemy and completing the objectives.

Its sequel, Far Cry 2, shifted the action from the jungles of the South Pacific to the plains of Africa, but was generally not well received.

It was condemned for the massive amounts of driving needed when travelling between objectives, giving rise to the unflattering nickname “Car Cry”, and the respawning enemy checkpoints.

This time the action is back in the jungle, with returning main character Jason Brody taking on psychopath Vaas and his equally insane underlings.

Multiplayer – which is an arguably more important component than the single-player campaign nowadays – is present in all three titles.

    Far Cry 3
Far Cry 3 – insane action in an even more insane tropical paradise

The other big-ticket first-person shooter, Medal Of Honor: Warfighter has already been released in the US to mixed reviews.

This means the battle between Halo 4, Blops II and Far Cry 3 will be a three-horse race.

All are sequels. None is original. So it remains to be seen how well these respective combat franchises have evolved.

Halo 4 is due out on November 6, Call Of Duty: Black Ops II is being released on November 13 and Far Cry 3 goes on sale on November 30.

  • Halo 4 losing to Black Ops 2 on pre-orders, fans react

Halo 4 losing to Black Ops 2 on pre-orders, fans react

With two of the most highly anticipated titles expected before Christmas over one million pre-orders have been registered for both Halo 4 and Black Ops 2 with the latter winning by just a small margin. As we look at what the fans think of this news, it is wise to remember that the new Call of Duty title will be available on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 systems, along with the PC and the new upcoming Wii U console.

Halo 4 is sitting at the top of the Xbox charts with Black Ops 2 a close second place, and a comfortable first on the PS3 charts, so even though Halo 4 is an Xbox exclusive we can tell that the franchise remains popular among gamers. Highlighting the USA pre-order charts for the week of October, 20th Only SP mention how Black Ops 2 is in front by about 100,000 reserved copies, and we are sure this will change over the next few weeks. It seems like this is not the first time the two franchises have gone head to head to we are intrigued to know what the general consensus is concerning this years top titles.

When you take the figures into consideration both games are producing great numbers and as far as exclusives go Halo 4 looks set to be one of the best to come out for quite sometime. The competition and current pre-order sales are a good sign for the industry, and the Call of Duty fanbase on both consoles give us reason to believe Halo 4 is holding its own. In other Black Ops 2 news, our most recent article spoke about the game coming to the Nintendo 3DS according to rumors that have been doing the rounds for a while now. We thought the idea of this happening seemed a bit far-fetched although a UK retailer’s website has recently listed this to be released at the same time as the other platforms.

As we take this news with pinch of salt, we are sure this would have been highly publicized by now, and nothing has come from Activision to confirm this, although we can probably see a side-game like Black Ops: Declassified on the Vita making an appearance on the 3DS. To keep things on an even keel, in another recent post we highlighted comments by 343 Industries encouraging caution against Halo 4 spoilers, as the internet is full of details about the game, and this is due to the recently leaked pre-release copies that have become available.

Those not wanting spoilers to ruin their enjoyment are recommended to stay away from various sites and forums for their own benefit. What’s your view of the pre-order chart figures? Do you feel Halo 4 is going to be decent competition for the popular multiplatform Black Ops 2?
