On May 1, 2023 – NetherRealm released a second 30th Anniversary video, but is titled as “Thank you from NetherRealm.” In this collection of “thank you” messages, the teams working with NetherRealm said their thank yous, and followed up with a little smidge of a teaser. On May 10, 2023 – the official Mortal Kombat YouTube channel uploaded a teaser trailer for Mortal Kombat 12. On May 17, 2023 – NetherRealm Studios released a new teaser trailer. Soon after that, NetherRealm Studios officially released the official announce trailer for Mortal Kombat 1, not “Mortal Kombat 12.” Mortal Kombat 1 is a complete reboot of the franchise, a “New Era,” no pun intended. Ed Boon is adamant that Mortal Kombat 1 has nothing to do with Mortal Kombat 11, but Mortal Kombat 1 takes place after the events of Mortal Kombat 11. Ed Boon and NetherRealm announced that Kombat Kast would be returning. That happened on July 6, 2023 – NetherRealm revealed more than Scorpion, and Johnny Cage. During Comic Con 2023, NetherRealm released a new trailer named “Umgadi.” It brings new characters, new locations, and new story information. During DreamCon 2023, NetherRealm Studios released an epic, new trailer for Mortal Kombat called “Keepers of Time” trailer.
During EVO 2023 Tournaments, NetherRealm Studios released a new trailer called “Banished.” It brings new character reveals like Reptile, who is now a human, and can turn into an actual reptile.
Mortal Kombat 1 is scheduled to be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, Nintendo Switch, and PC on September 19, 2023.
