Starting with PlayStation 5, Sony plans to brand first-party games as “PlayStation Studios.” The branding will be used only on games that are developed and managed by Sony. To coincide with the announcement, Sony also released a new opening video. The branding is not exclusive to PlayStation devices such as PlayStation 4, and the upcoming PlayStation 5. First-Party PlayStation games being available on PC will bear the “PlayStation Studios” branding. However, there are certain games that will not have it ready in time for launch, like The Last of Us Part II, Ghosts of Tsushima, and Horizon Zero Dawn (for PC).
According to Eric Lempel, who is the Senior Vice President, and Head of Global Marketing at Sony Worldwide Studios, in communication with GameIndustry.biz, he clarified “We think this is a good way to let consumers know that, if they see it, then the quality games they’ve come to expect from us are here,” Lempel explained. “And this brand will exist for well-known existing franchises, as well as brand new franchises that we have yet to explore.”
