Nostalgia in the Video Game industry has been a niche that’s rising for a while now. At first, many companies have been releasing knock-off consoles of major game consoles over the years. Nintendo decided to jump into this market officially with their own plug-and-play called the NES Classic Edition, they followed up with SNES Classic Edition. SNK jumped in with their very own Neo Geo Mini. SEGA licensed the “Genesis” brand to AtGames, so they could offer their own Genesis plug-and-play, and SEGA was going to continue the relationship with AtGames until the last minute. SEGA was going to release an official Genesis Mini by AtGames, and they still are on track to releasing a Genesis Mini – just not with AtGames. Some cited that the quality of AtGames’ output turned SEGA away from AtGames.
Capcom has been doing a similar situation as of late – not through plug-and-play, but they’ve been licensing out their games to Nintendo for SNES Classic Edition (Street Fighter Turbo, and Mega Man X are on it), they licensed their games to those popular 1up arcade machines, and they even released Capcom Beat ‘Em Up Bundle for PlayStation 4 & Nintendo Switch. So, don’t be surprised if they release their own plug-and-play system. Introducing Capcom Home Arcade…
