Best strategies mashed together in one video (above)to show how to defeat Crota on Hard. Including main room positioning, entry/exit strategy and sword combinations (safe VS effective). All sources of the video are listed in Youtube description.
Starting Room Crystal
Step 1. When clearing the starting room, have x2 Warlocks activate their super and generate orbs for both Titans and Hunters.
Step 2. Titan drops Ward of Dawn with Blessing of Light before exiting starting room, ensuring no guardians lose any life from boomer fire.
Main Arena
Step 3. x4/5 guardians perch on the outside edge of the starting room crystal out of the way of Boomers and take out the Swordbearer near the centre altar (previously where the Challice of light was positioned).
Step 4. Hunter swordbearer activates Bladedance super and turns invisible to collect the sword.
Step 5. Hunter swordbearer jumps on centre altar and up to Crota whilst invisible.
Step 6. Simultaneous support fireteam begins DPS on Crota
Step 7. Hunter damages Crota with sword (see sword combinations for Safest VS Effective) and exits.
Exit strategy OPTION 1
Step 8. A Titan accompanies the Hunter Swordbearer and positions themselves on the right of the map. After the Hunter has damaged Crota, the Titan drops a defensive bubble for the Hunter to exit to and reactivate invisibility whilst crouching.
Exit Strategy OPTION 2
Step 9. After damaging Crota, the Hunter drops the sword, melees Crota to activate invisibility and re-collects the sword.This requires no retreat between downing Crota, however the Hunter must complete the final exit without assistance.
Sword Combinations
Step 10. Safest combination is x3 heavy strikes (R2, R2, R2), however this is not the maximum damage and will result in Orges spawning before Crota's defeat.
Step 11. Most effective combination is light, light, heavy combo x2 repeat (R1, R1, R2) and if timed perfectly a 7th strike can be added (heavy). You must begin this combination before Crota drops to his knees at the instant his shield is removed. Even if you start the combination early and miss the first melee strike you will still do more damage than x3 heavy strikes. Orges
Step 12. If you choose the safest sword combination you will be faced with Orges. Ambush the first orge by waiting in its spawn room.
Step 13. Destroy the second orge with sniper and rocket fire.
Oversoul
Step 14. When Crota's health reaches approximately 15% he will automatically become enraged. Ignore the Oversoul and down Crota one last time to finish him off with the sword.
