The biggest announcements from June 2024 Nintendo Direct

It has been a while since the last Nintendo Direct livestream. What usually is E3 week, was kicked off by Sony’s underwhelming State of Play livestream. Shortly kicked off by Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest livestream, which was also underwhelming. To top it off, Microsoft showed up with a livestream of their own. If E3 existed, Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase stole the show. Usually, it’s Nintendo who steals the show. Well, Nintendo DID steal the show this time.

Nintendo just wrapped up their Nintendo Direct livestream, and so, today we’re gonna highlight the best announcements from the event…

Mario and Luigi: Brothership

Nintendo created a new Mario franchise in a title called “Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga” for GameBoy Advanced. Since then, Nintendo released new sequels, 6 follow-on titles. Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga was born out of the ideas presented in the Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario games. Mario & Luigi: Brothership was announced for Nintendo Switch during Nintendo Direct…

FANTASIAN Neo Dimension

Developed by the same guy who gave birth to Final Fantasy – Hironobu Sakaguchi, and scored by the same person who designed all the music for Final Fantasy – Nobuo Uematsu. Fantasian Neo Dimension is a new RPG that is arriving to Nintendo Switch…

Donkey Kong Country Returns HD

Donkey Kong Country was released in 1995 to praise by fans, parents, and critics. Donkey Kong Country was developed by Rare Ltd., and spurred 2 mainline sequels. Donkey Kong Country was also a pack-in game for Super Nintendo. Donkey Kong Country Returns was released on November 21, 2010 for Nintendo Wii and developed by Retro Studios of the Metroid Prime fame. Donkey Kong Country Returns HD is a remaster of Donkey Kong Country Returns from Wii. It adds a few new levels…

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom was the biggest surprise of the event because we were expecting another type of Zelda game. A remaster of two The Legend of Zelda games, and yet, Nintendo comes with a curveball. The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom seems familiar, because it uses the same engine and likeness as The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening for Nintendo Switch. However, the storyline seems to be taking place in the world of “A link to the past,” and “A link between worlds.”

New Nintendo Switch Online games

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past – Four Swords, Metroid: Zero Mission, Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, and Perfect Dark are coming to Nintendo Switch Online soon. Important to note: Nintendo 64 is getting a separate Mature 17+ app for Nintendo Switch.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

With the hype surrounding Metroid lately, with the release of Metroid Dread. [Which I reviewed.] Metroid Prime Remastered was also released with a massive hype. Metroid Prime 4 was announced in 2017 under the Bandai Namco banner. In January 2019, Nintendo restarted development of Metroid Prime 4, and Retro Studios would helm the project. Kensuke Tanabe is returning as producer on Metroid Prime 4. In the past, Kensuke Tanabe worked on all the Metroid Prime games. Moreover, the final name of Metroid Prime 4 is “Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.”

And now, I’ll highlight 3 multiplatform titles that was highlighted during Nintendo Direct that may have your interest…

Stray for Nintendo Switch

Stray has already been released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and PC. Stray has been downgraded from the other consoles to play well on Nintendo Switch.

LEGO Horizon Adventures for Nintendo Switch

It may be odd to have a PlayStation game arrive on Nintendo Switch, but actually, this is not the first Sony title to have been released on a Nintendo console. Nope. In fact, in 1989, Sony set up a joint company with CBS, as “CBS/Sony Group” and spun off one of their ventures as “CSG Imagesoft Inc.” Imagesoft was Sony’s American label from the start, so when it was time to rebrand – Sony named the new company as “Sony Imagesoft Inc.” From 1989 to 1995, Sony had been developing, and publishing licensed Video Games… for other consoles, like Sega Genesis, and Super Nintendo. So, this is not new. [Source]

That being said, LEGO Horizon Adventures is coming to PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

MARVEL vs. CAPCOM Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics

During the Nintendo Direct, MARVEL vs. CAPCOM Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics was announced – but we know this is Capcom, so… is there a chance of coming to other consoles? Yup, and it’s not just coming to Nintendo Switch, it’s also coming to PlayStation 4 (you can use backwards compatibility on PS5), and PC. These are the 7 games in the collection…

  • X-MEN CHILDREN OF THE ATOM
  • MARVEL SUPER HEROES
  • X-MEN VS. STREET FIGHTER
  • MARVEL SUPER HEROES vs. STREET FIGHTER
  • MARVEL vs. CAPCOM CLASH OF SUPER HEROES
  • MARVEL vs. CAPCOM 2 New Age of Heroes
  • THE PUNISHER
