Tetris is a franchise that has a legacy that dates back to 1984 when Alexey Pajitnov coded Tetris as a computer program for PC (Personal Computer). From here on, Tetris became a phenomenon within’ Soviet Union at the time. Alexey Pajitnov brought Tetris to the mass market with well-known devices. The most famous device Tetris was brought to, is Nintendo’s consoles – Nintendo Entertainment System, and GameBoy. Tetris sold 35 Million copies worldwide for GameBoy, and has been ported to 65 platforms over the years that follow. By December 2011, across all these platforms, Tetris has sold 202 Million copies, 70 Million units, and 132 Million free or paid downloads. The Tetris Company, Inc. licensed the use of the “Tetris” name and branding to Apple Original Films to produce and distribute their Tetris film to be released on Apple TV+ on March 31, 2021.
