Modern Warfare 3′s sixth Elite Drop is a good entry.

In the middle of all of these GamesCon reveals, Activision sure has been busy with unveiling Black Ops 2 multiplayer. When Activision released July’s Elite Drops on Xbox Live, they had problems with the launch of Modern Warfare 2’s Terminal on MW3. There were lots of leaks surrounding Terminal. Glitches were found and Xbox 360 owners exploited them. Activision did not want the same result on PlayStation Network, so they worked with Sony to patch up MW3’s Terminal. Terminal was released on PS3 alongside the new maps recently, and I had the chance to play them all.

Decommission: Someone made a mess to have a bunch of ships and containers to be veiled in oilings. You must wade through a maze of cropped off buildings, containers, and parts of ships. This is mostly a run n’ gun map, but it doesn’t feel like it because it has this open-space feel, but it’s not open-spaced. Every area is narrow; you’d think a run n’ gun strategy works in these narrow spaces – With Decommission, this is not the case because most of the environment is messy to the point of not being able to see the other player very well. From a distance, your enemies will seem like they’re camoflauging into the environments. Poor design, poor execution, just flat out poor.

Off Shore: You’re in the middle of nowhere in an ocean. You must duke it out on an Oil Rig packed full of containers, cranes, and helipads. I like this map mostly because it encourages run n’ gun gameplay. There’s bound to be all types of players, but mostly run n’ gun. It makes you look, it makes you think tactically, it makes you move… I mean it’s that good.

Terminal (Free): As the name implies, you’re at an airport. A lot of areas have changed from Modern Warfare 2, and I must say, they’re good changes. Although, I don’t know how I feel about MW2’s Terminal in Modern Warfare 3. Hm.

Vertigo (Spec Ops): We have daytime “Oasis,” but now we have night time Oasis. You’re at the top of a Dubai hotel known as “Oasis.” It starts out with a bang: You’re holding a laser-guided RPG, your first mission is to destroy the helicopters, then defend the hotel from enemies, and juggernauts. I really think that this is the second best Spec Ops maps yet. Not only is the design great, you’re challenged to fight off hordes of enemies and juggernauts. Once you finish, and you thought you were finished, eh? You have to jump off the rooftop and face even more enemies on the other side!

If you’d like to know how I felt about all of the maps that have been released thus far, here they are: First Drops Piazza and Liberation, and Second Drops Overwatch, Black Box, Black Ice, and Negotiator. I have recently released my impressions of the Third Drops Foundation and Sanctuary. Fourth Drops Face Off maps. Fifth Drops Mixed bag of maps.

Stay Tuned for more impressions of Modern Warfare 3′s maps in coming weeks and months. The content drops so far are part of the content season that Activision is holding throughout the entire year.
